Greetings music lovers and welcome back to my postings offering you some serious slices of vinyl. As ever, it’s either the more interesting, rare book valued stuff, or pristine copies of those more recent LP’s you’d always been after or in some cases, both.

.
There have been so few vinyl LPs produced over the last 5 years that you should never pass up the opportunity to upgrade your collection. They're each very limited in their pressings and disappear with extraordinary quickness from the vinyl market. This causes prices to skyrocket because once they are gone, they are gone forever! Don't second-guess yourself with this chance to upgrade your collection because before you know it, the opportunity will have passed forever.

.

Before despatching, each and every vinyl record that you purchase from us will be cleaned with a special cleaning chemical and wipe with a Goldring super anti-static carbon fibre record brush 2 or 3 revolutions, whilst effectively reducing any static charges on the record. Meaning that you will receive a very clean and dust free vinyl record from us.

The title track "Friends" was a minor hit in the U.S. (No.34 on the pop chart).

Elton John's soundtrack is unbelievably set perfectly to the movie. Many of the songs were not big hits, nevertheless if you are looking for “quality songs” and not only for the Top 40, this is the LP you will just love.

Any fan of Elton John will enjoy this LP. This is a “must-have” for the Elton John fan. This album seems to capture some of the best ‘Elton John/Bernie Taupin’ collaboration.

.
.
Linda Ronstadt's appeal crossed so many genre lines it's impossible to categorize her as anything other than a “gifted vocalist”. She enjoyed success on country and rock charts alike with a voice that capably handled the requirements of both styles.

There was a commanding roughness to her you-did-me-wrong classic, "You're No Good", that mixed both soul and R&B stylings into her vocals. In a similar vein, she handled the Motown standard, "Heat Wave" like a pro, this time giving it the slightest hint of a country twang. She even rose to the occasion of covering Buddy Holly's "That'll Be the Day". Rondstadt had some of her best moments with material that had a more emotional element, regardless of genre. "Love Is a Rose" and "Tracks of My Tears" are good examples of the disparate styles she could navigate with equal aplomb.

It is difficult to describe her in words short of superlatives such as “phenomenal”, the little woman with the big, big voice.

To be a fan of Linda Ronstadt is to be a fan of “power vocals”. Her style is eclectic; her skill “sublime”.

Donna Summer set to work on this album with long-time partner, Giorgio Moroder. By this time, although disco music was still popular, other styles such as punk & heavy metal were also doing well on the charts, so the team decided to incorporate a rockier sound into some of the songs. Other songs had a more soul/R&B feel to them. It was Summer's most diverse album.

The fusion of rock & disco was particularly evident, and synthesizers were used to augment the sound for a more electronic and dance oriented electro music in the first two songs on the album - "Hot Stuff" & "Bad Girls". Both were huge hits and made No.1 on the American singles chart. The former also won Summer a ‘Grammy Award’ for “Best Female Rock Vocal Performance”.

“Bad Girls”, was Summer's first step toward artistic respectability, and this album gave Summer credibility amongst the “rock crowd”.

This is where Donna showed that she not only knew how to heat up the dance floor, but she could just as sure “rock the house”.

Besides showing that Donna could stand her ground on the rock scene as well as the discos, it also showcased Donna as a first class balladeer with songs like the beautiful "On My Honor" & "All Through The Night".

This album is a MUST HAVE, for anyone looking for great music!

There is no one like ‘Cat Stevens’. He's “very unique”. You just cannot go wrong with a “classic” album like this! Anyone who lived thru the 60's and 70's knows his melodies and voice instantly, a “MUST HAVE” album!

Cat Stevens’ was an excellent musician. All the hits are here and this is an excellent selection for any serious music buff, this is still an entirely enjoyable album.

This is a great collection of “classic songs” from one of the “top artists ever”. Cat Stevens is an amazing singer and songwriter and these songs sound as good now as they ever have.

“Greatest Hits” is a compilation album by Cat Stevens, made up mostly of tracks from his 5 previous studio albums.

During the 70s, a young man with a deft knack for beautiful melody wrote songs like "Peace Train", "Moon Shadow", "Wild World" and one of the most uplifting songs of all time, "Morning Has Broken".

Cat Stevens had the voice, the musicianship and the earnestness to capture the hearts of listeners for the better part of a decade. His message was so universal that his biggest hits crossed radio boundaries and international borders. All Stevens's best known American hits are collected here.

.

Cat Stevens’ will never be forgotten. He sang so beautifully and employed the guitar so well in the arrangements of his songs that just one listen to his music thrills you. This LP makes you crave more of his fine artistry. His voice on this LP is strong, masculine yet sensitive and passionate.
.
Cat Stevens’ is still one of the few artists who could turn out songs that appealed to very broad audiences. His melodies strike you instantly as being infectiously catchy and very admirable. Fans of “classic rock and pop” will also enjoy this LP.

6. Stevie Wonder - Looking BackRM99 (3x LPs)
.
.

.

Label: Motown Records – M 804LP3
Country: US
Released: 1977
Genre: Funk/Soul
Style: Soul, Pop, R&B, Funk

Notes:
Limited Edition 3-Record Set.

.

“Looking Back” is a triple LP anthology by American soul musician ‘Stevie Wonder’. Since its release in 12-inch Triple LP format, it has not been reissued and is considered a “limited edition”.

The album chronicles 40 songs from Wonder's first Motown period, which precedes the “classic period” of his critically acclaimed albums.

This triple-album set was the “ultimateWonder collection.

It contains every major hit and many other vital singles from 1962–71, showing his evolution from Ray Charles's disciple to assembly-line hitmaker to individualistic artist.

Blind from birth, Stevie has never allowed that to be an obstacle or handicap.

Between 1963 and the end of 1971, Wonder placed over 25 songs on Billboard's charts. 24 of those — including such radio staples as "Fingertips, Pt. 2", "Uptight (Everything's Alright)", "I Was Made to Love Her", "For Once in My Life", "My Cherie Amour", and "Signed, Sealed, Delivered I'm Yours" — appear on “Looking Back” album.

Wonder's recordings in the '60s stand apart from most Motown acts partially because he was paired with producers and writers who very rarely worked with the ‘Temptations’, ‘Supremes’, etc.

In the beginning Wonder was often produced by Clarence Paul and/or William Stevenson; during the golden years, Henry Cosby was usually manning the controls.

Then in 1970, Wonder started producing himself, beginning with "Signed, Sealed, Delivered." Most of Wonder's singles were written by Wonder himself in tandem with a variety of others, or by Ron Miller.

The hits alternated between stomping barn-burners and mid-tempo, understated ballads.

.

I would reccommend this album to anyone who is trying to understand the music of the mind of one of the greatest artists of the 20th and 21st century.

.
“Sweet Baby James” is singer-songwriter James Taylor's 2nd. album, and his first release on Warner Bros. Records. Released in February 1970, it showcased Taylor's talents and showed the direction he would take in the early 1970s with the expansion of his career. The album featured one of Taylor's earliest single successes: "Fire and Rain", which reached No.3 on the Billboard Hot 100.

The album itself also managed to reach No.3 on the Billboard Album Charts.

“Sweet Baby James” made Taylor one of the main forces of the ascendent folk movement. The album was nominated to a ‘Grammy Award’ for “Album of the Year”, in 1971. The album was listed at No.103 on Rolling Stone's “500 Greatest Albums of All Time”.

BAD TO THE BONE is “classicGeorge Thorogood and his band the Destroyers. On this album we have 10 slabs of great blues-rock music that all music fans will enjoy. George helped to bring alot of the classic blues masters into the mainstream back in the 80's and early 90's when he was in his prime.

On this album we have his classic title track that is enough of a reason to buy this album, but I think that the other songs are great also. BACK TO WENTZVILLE, NOBODY BUT ME, MISS LUANN, NO PARTICULAR PLACE TO GO are just furious rockin tunes that will get you moving in no time. BLUE HIGHWAY, IT'S A SIN, AS THE YEARS GO PASSING BY are slower blues tempo songs that are pulled off very well here.

"Bad to the Bone" put George on the map of songwriters and will probably be his signature song!
This is a showcase release that is an enjoyable listen!

“Hawks & Doves” is the 10th. studio album by Canadian musician ‘Neil Young’. The record peaked at No. 30 on the U.S. Billboard Top Pop Albums chart in December 1980. This is a much-overlooked Neil Young “classic”.

After Neil Young left the California folk-rock band ‘Buffalo Springfield’ in 1968, he slowly established himself as one of the most influential and idiosyncratic singer/songwriters of his generation.

Young's body of work ranks 2nd. only to ‘Bob Dylan’ in terms of depth, and he was able to sustain his critical reputation, as well as record sales, for a longer period of time than ‘Dylan’, partially because of his willfully perverse work ethic. From the beginning of his solo career in the late '60s through to the 21st century, he never stopped writing, recording, and performing.

Side one is the 'Doves' side. It features some lovely acoustic music, especially tracks 1 & 3. "Captain Kennedy" is a the stand-out track on the album. The song is one of Young's “all-time best”.

While side one sticks with the soft acoustics of Neil's voice and guitar, side two is a country-rock patriotic party… the 'Hawks' side. It's one great album side, with Neil churning and turning up the electric guitar another notch with each song.

Here's Neil as “weird” and as “terrific” as he's ever been. Another excellent album by the favorite singer/songwriter Neil Young. This group of songs are well writen and recorded.

The few highlights are from the acoustic half. "Little Wing", "The Old Homestead" and "Captain Kennedy" keep “Hawks & Doves” soaring...

The album went to “No.1” upon its release and also garnered a positive review in Rolling Stone where the reviewer called it “their best album to date”. Other more recent reviews have also been positive.

Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young ("CSNY") began performing together in 1969 as the first true folk-rock 'super-group' formed by four guitar-playing singer-songwriters from other popular bands. David Crosby came from ‘The Byrds’; Stephen Stills and Neil Young came from ‘Buffalo Springfield’; and Graham Nash was a member of British pop band ‘The Hollies’.

"CSNY" managed to release this double-LP document of their 1970 tour before splintering into solo careers. Recorded “live” when this supergroup was at its commercial zenith.

This album yielded 2 Top 40 hits. It was a massive success and propelled the band to stardom - it would eventually sell over 4-million copies.

This is one of those "essential albums" you owe it to yourself to purchase.

Neil Young has recorded many albums but none capture his two dominant musical personalities with as much power as 1979's “Rust Never Sleeps”.

The acoustic side opens with "My, My, Hey, Hey (Out of the Blue)", a devastating anthem about the state of Rock n Roll. Comparing Sex Pistols's Johnny Rotten to Elvis Presley, ‘Neil Young’ delivers his most famous line: "It's better to burn out than to fade away".

Side 2 demonstrates the emotional power of Young's hard-rocking quartet, ‘Crazy Horse’, with the scathing political songs "Powderfinger", "Welfare Mothers" and the loud reprise of "My, My, Hey, Hey", a perfect song that has become a Neil Young anthem.

Neil Young's “Rust Never Sleeps” is a rock album that is simply “essential”. Split into acoustic and electric sections with the excellent classic songs "My My, Hey Hey (Into The Blue)" and "Hey Hey, My My (Into The Black)". It incorporates all of the elements that make Neil Young great into a single, excellent album.

It has been noted that this excellent effort - with its electric/acoustic format - was based upon the groundwork laid down by Bob Dylan on “Bringing It All Back Home”.

This album features one of ‘Neil Young’ most beautiful vocals and some of his best lyrics.

A great album, one of Neil's finest as it enscapulates all that is great about him. Musically, it's great; and lyrically, this is where Neil really blossom as one of the finest and most unique voices in rock. Simply put, an essential album all around.

Country: US
Released: 1975
Genre: Pop, Rock

Classic Rock

“Equinox” is the 5th. album by ‘Styx’. The album was the band's 1st. release for A&M Records.

The album's biggest hit was the track "Lorelei", which was Styx's 2nd. US “Top 30” hit. Another well-known song was "Suite Madame Blue". The track became a “staple” for all ‘Styx’ tours with Dennis DeYoung.

Although “Equinox” stalled at No.58 on the Billboard Pop Album chart, it was certified “Gold” by the R.I.A.A. in 1977.

Suite Madame Blue

This is the one album where ‘Styx’ was firing on all cylinders. It was their first on the A&M label and probably their best. Obviously inspired by the promotion to a major label, having left Wooden Nickel, Dennis DeYoung seemed to be re-born.

A sea of synths and the soaring vocals of Dennis DeYoung helped this 1975 album and its single "Lorelei" become sizable hits. Also includes the rousing album opener "Light Up"; the dramatic ballad "Suite Madam Blue"; the fan favorite "Lonely Child", and more!

"Light Up" opens the album with a hint to the light pop sound ‘Styx’ would adopt on future projects, but the album breaks hard and fast with "Lorelei", an infectious power pop song with which I'm sure most ‘Styx’ fans are now familiar.

"Mother Dear", is hauntingly beautiful with a few power guitar riffs thrown in just to keep you guessing. The song also reminds us that DeYoung is a hell of a good keyboard player.

"Midnight Ride" is James Young's hard rock offering. Reminiscent of a Ted Nugent chord progression, the song offers those of us craving “metal with melody”. During that time period, we came to look forward to the one James Young rocker on each album. There is no weak song on this album. If only ‘Styx’ were still making recordings like this.

This is the one ‘Styx’ LP I can still listen to from start to finish without skipping any songs.

‘Mott The Hoople’ was a Glitter/Rock group lead by Ian Hunter & Mick Ralphs. Even though those original members eventually left the group, ‘Mott’ continued to release charting albums for many years to follow. In 1975 they issued “Drive On”.

If you listen to this record, it turns out to be a high energy, rocking and FUN listen all the way through. Top notch musicians playing catchy 70's hard rock.

After the original band member Ian Hunter's quick departure for a solo career, ‘Mott’ was formed in 1975 with Nigal Benjamin handling lead vocals and the very talented Ray Major on guitar. The result? Mott - “Drive On” (1975).

Ray Major and Nigel Benjamin fill the group original members' shoes flawlessly and actually take the band in a better more metallic direction...

Mott’ were decidedly heavier and more 70's AOR (Album-Oriented Rock) leaning than the old ‘Mott The Hoople’ stuff.

An excellant “hard-rocking” album with some very memorable tunes and riffs. The album opens with the hard rocking "By Tonight" followed by the equally as good "Monte Carlo".

Overall some pretty darn catchy rock in the “classic” rock mode, with some decent ballads thrown in. The song "The Great White Wail" & "It Takes One to Know One" could have been hits back in the day if they had the right promotion.

....THIS RECORD ROCKS !!!! Yeah , many of the melodies are simple, but they are infectious. What was unknown, at the time, as a power ballad, this record has a couple great ones. You'll enjoy it all the more.

Most people, like myself, discover “Song for America” after their exposure to Kansas's more mainstream material and are blown away by what they hear.
.
So much of this album defines what 1970s anthem rock was all about. Sweeping instrumental virtuosity and lyrics that critics call “pompous”, historians call “quaint”, and I call just plain perfection. Oh to have material like this these days!

“Song for America” is the 2nd. album by American heartland progressive rockersKansas’, released in 1975.
.

“Song for America” is regarded by many as their most progressive rock and heavy work, as their next albums would transit into a softer format. "Down the Road" is a typical example of ‘Kansas’ with this heavy sound. Like the first album, the writing duties were divided between Kerry Livgren and the most notably vocalist/keyboardist ‘Steve Walsh’.
.

Musically, “Song for America” features complex arrangements for electric and acoustic guitar, violin and keyboards (including piano, organ and Arp and Moog synthesizers).

The title track "Song For America" remains a ‘Kansas’ standard to this day.

"Lonely street" demonstrates the breath of Kansas's accomplishment. Its a bluesy tune that is one of the most unique ‘Kansas’ tunes. I know of no other song in their catalog that explores the blues to quite this degree.

"Incommudro" remains the best song of this album. Each member gets to showcase on this tune, particularly Ehart the drummer who shows his Peartish virtuosity and his ‘King Crimson’ roots. This song is over-the-top.

Kansas’ are brilliant musicians, and this album does not disappoint.

“Santana's Greatest Hits” is a 1974 compilation album by ‘Santana’. It offers highlights from the group's first 3 albums. It's the bands best-selling compilation album, after “Ultimate Santana”, selling over “7-million” records in the US alone, whilst selling worldwide more than “8-million” units.

If you only want the “essentials”, this is the package to get. “Greatest Hits” is an early collection dating back to 1974, and it does a good job of skimming the cream from the band's classic 1969-71 period, which yielded the first 3 albums, “Santana”, “Abraxas” & “Santana 3”.

It also avoids the second-line material that pads Santana's later catalog: The peaks after '71 are far more thinly spread.

Going through life without experiencing a taste of ‘Santana’ would truly be regrettable. This album “Santana's Greatest Hits” will allow you to experience him at his best. I strongly recommend it. You'll not be disappointed.

Thinking about listening to the most captivating, interesting music that will allow you to explore the many aspects of life ?

Well when I think about an album that can arise so many diverse and varying feelings, I think of “Santana's Greatest Hits”.

Santana's magical and mystical form of playing his guitar can truly stir up many different feelings, whether you are ready to rock out or chill out. This album really sums up Santana's greatest songs.

It is filled with many different instruments; his trademark guitar, the electric piano and the drums. I prefer this album over a lot of his new material; his older, fresher songs are inventive and “classic”.

‘Grand Funk Railroad’ (also known as ‘Grand Funk’) is an American rock band that was highly popular during the 1970s. ‘Grand Funk’ toured constantly to packed arenas worldwide, audiences loved them.

“Closer to Home” is Grand Funk's 3rd. studio album, and was released in July 1970 by Capitol Records. This album reached R.I.A.A. “Gold” record status in 1970, making it the group's 3rd. “Gold” record in one year.

On the day of its original release, “Closer to Home” was so ahead of its time! Big bass, guitars and drums, and great riffs.

In the day of its original release, most who weren't ‘Grand Funk’ die-hards but bought the album after their “Funkophile” friends gave them the taste of the title track that compelled the purchase in the first place.

You and I know that "I'm Your Captain (Closer to Home)" is one of the most “beautiful songs” in rock history, that it has transcended its time and place, and anyone who says it's been overplayed is just a sourpuss.

If someone is interested in “classic hard rock” with early heavy metal and blues influences, this is the LP for you. What a blast from the past, you can't get good music like this anymore!

This happens to be one of my all-time favorite LP's of all time. Just about every song is good. These guys have to be one of the greatest power trio's of all time.

Simply put, this is the best studio LP from ‘Grand Funk Railroad’.

“Crime of the Century” is the 3rd. album by the progressive rock band ‘Supertramp’. The album was Supertramp's first to feature its classic lineup and co-producer Ken Scott (who previously worked with ‘David Bowie’ and ‘The Beatles’).

This is the one with their all-time classic, "Bloody Well Right"; the progressive-pop gem, "Dreamer"; the dreamy title song, and more!

“Crime of the Century” was Supertramp's first U.S. Top 40 album and was eventually certified “Gold” in the U.S. in 1977.

The album, accompanied by the hit single "Dreamer", also marked the first evidence of success for the band in the United Kingdom. “Crime of the Century” itself reaching No.1 on the album chart there in 1975, and "Dreamer" No.9 on the singles chart the same year.

In 1978, “Crime of the Century” was ranked 108th. in The World Critic Lists, which recognised the “200 greatest albums of all time” as voted for by notable rock critics and DJs.

In the 1987 edition of the publication, CBC's Geoff Edwards ranked “Crime of the Century” the “10th. greatest album of all time”.

A 1998 public poll, aggregating the votes of more than 200,000 music fans, saw “Crime of the Century” voted among the all-time “Top 1000 albums”, and it was listed in the 2005 book “1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die”.

The fact that “Crime of the Century” is quite possibly the finest sounding achivement in all of recorded rock music. A "masterpiece" !!!

Label: Elektra – 6E-194
Country: US
Released: 1979
Genre: Folk, World, & Country, Blues, Rock
.

Hank Williams, Jr., is an American country singer-songwriter & musician. His musical style is often considered a blend of Southern Rock, Blues & Country.

In the music industry, there are very few artists who surpass “superstar” status to become true American icons. Hank Williams Jr. is a founding member of that elite club.

He was prolific throughout the 80s, sometimes recording and releasing two albums a year.

In 1987/88, Williams was named “Entertainer of the Year” by the Country Music Association. In 1987, 1988 & 1989, he won the same award from the Academy of Country Music.

During the 1980s, Williams became a country music “superstar” known for catchy anthems and hard-edged rock-influenced country. During the late 70s and into the early to mid 80s Hank Jr.’s songs constantly flew into the No.1 or No.2 spot.

Hank's music has three main roots - country, blues and rock'n'roll. The blues influence strong on this album. There is a lot of great music here, which grows on you with repeat plays. If you like country music served with a strong blues flavor, this is for you.

Great recoding all round - Hank used 3 producers on this recording and if you listen closely you can hear a change in the production on the songs. The drum sound on the Ray Ruff produced songs stand out.

Hanks cover of "I Fought The Law" is also a stand out track. It's just different in all the right ways and of course "Family Tradition" was the biggest hit from this album. It peaked at No.4 on US Billboard chart, and is one of his most popular songs. Hank was on his game as a performer and as a writer on this album.

It kicks off with the greatest hit "Down South Jukin'", followed by the hard-rockin "Preachers Daughter". Next in line is the slow "ballad" called "White Dove", best "slow song" I've ever heard!

Next is another greatest hit, "Was I Right or Wrong", followed by "Lend a Helpin' Hand". Next comes "Wino", which is a great song, and "Comin' Home'", another greatest hit, comes after that, which was sung with so much passion.

Lastly we have "The Seasons", which is a very nice song, and last, but not least, is a rockier version of "Things Goin' On".

This album was released in 1978 after the fatal plane crash that took the lives of band members, Ronnie VanZant and Steve Gaines. Overall, this is a really great album, get it! ‘Lynyrd Skynyrd’ fans should not pass this one by.

Gary Wright is an American musician, best known for his song, "Dream Weaver".
.
Gary Wright's ground-breaking 1975 release album “The Dream Weaver” stretched the pop music envelope by featuring the first-ever all keyboard/synthesizer band, and by pioneering technologies in cut-down versions of synthesizers and drum machines that revolutionized the musical instrument business and changed the sound of pop, rock and R&B forever.

In 1976, the song "Dream Weaver" hit No.1 in the charts, and its follow-up release "Love is Alive" climbed to No.2. In all, “The Dream Weaver” resulted in sales of over 2-million albums and 2-million singles. In a business where even the biggest success is often written in the wind, the popular appeal of Wright’s songwriting genius has endured.

The 1970’s were extremely prolific for Wright as he also produced records for ‘Rolling Stones’ producer Jimmy Miller’s production company. He quickly became a part of London’s elite session musicians, playing keyboards on George Harrison’s 1970 classic “All Things Must Pass”, which also featured Eric Clapton, Ringo Starr, Phil Collins and other greats. Thus began a continuing musical relationship with Harrison that embraced playing keyboards as well as co-writing several songs on George’s subsequent albums.

Together with Harrison, Wright visited India in 1974 as a guest of ‘Ravi Shankar’. That visit developed into a long term relationship with Shankar as well as some of India’s other leading classical artists which ultimately blossomed in his award-winning 1988 album “Who I Am” (Cypress Records) that used an all-star cast of musicians including a South Indian percussion section and performances by classical Indian masters Lakshmi Shankar and L. Subramanian.

In 1991, Warner Bros. Records asked Wright to remake Dream Weaver for the Wayne’s World movie soundtrack which went on to become Billboard’s No.1 soundtrack album; selling over 2-million copies. “Dream Weaver’’ was also featured in the Golden Globe winning picture The People vs. Larry Flynt.

After leaving ‘Aerosmith’ in 1979, Joe Perry created his own band: ‘The Joe Perry Project’.

.

(Ralph Morman - Vocals, Joe Perry - Guitars/Vocals, David Hull - Bass/Vocals, Ronnie Stewart - Drums).

The Project's 1st. album “Let the Music Do the Talking” was produced by long-time ‘Aerosmith’ producer Jack Douglas. It was their most successful album.

.

.

With this album and this band, Joe showed the fans a whole other side of himself that they hadn't seen in ‘Aerosmith’. Joe came out with some of his greatest guitar licks ever heard before. He and Ralph wrote great songs and did an excellent job on vocals together.

.

This album rocks...!!
All the songs are great, "Rockin' train", "Conflict of interest" and "Discount dogs" are the standout tracks. Joe Perry's boys sound fresh and full of energy. Its pure Perry energy... definitely the best of Joe's solo work. The title track should be an anthem for all bands... just shut up and play!

.

This whole album has a great feel to it, and is a good example that Joe needs to pull out of ‘Aerosmith’ every now and again to put out a quality effort without a bus load of songwriter's and Steven Tyler's shouting and screaming a 1,000 times over a good guitar lick.

.

The opening title track, "Let The Music Do The Talking" is the greatest song on the album. It starts out with a big bass riff and then a short drum roll and then, BANG! Joe kicks in with the loud guitar riffs. This song is so INTENSE and is a MASTERPIECE!!

The next track, "Conflict of Interest" is a good loud song with excellent lyrics written and sung by Joe. It also has a great instrumental piece at the end. The next track, "Discount Dogs" is a song well done by Ralph. His vocals were perfect for the lyrics. His voice fits Joe's style perfectly. "Shooting Star" is another great tune sung by Joe and has a great rythm and great lyrics.

The instrumental "Break Song" is just a jam that the band did together. It has great guitar solos and drum beats. "The Mist Is Rising" written and sung by Joe is a little low-tone by is a slow rock/bluesy piece of work. The last track, "Life At A Glance" is a PURE MASTERPIECE written and sung by Joe and Ralph. Excellent guitar riffs and drum beats.

THIS ALBUM IS JOE PERRY ALL-TIME GREATEST EFFORT !!
.

If you love ‘Aerosmith’ you'll love this album. I believe this is the direction Joe wanted to see Aerosmith going at the time. Glad it all worked out! This album is a fine addition to any collection, even an ‘Aerosmith’ collection !!

.
“LET THE MUSIC DO THE TALKING” IS ONE OF THE GREATEST ROCK AND ROLL ALBUMS OF ALL TIME !!

“Bark” starts out with a rock anthem, "When the Earth Moves Again", and ends with another rock anthem, "War Movie".

"Feel So Good" is a excellent bluesy number with strong instrumentals. "Feel so good" is one of the most powerful rock n roll ballads.

"Pretty as You Feel" was the last ‘Jefferson Airplane’ single to place on the US singles chart, and it is a memorable highlight of this album - featuring superb harmonies by Grace and Joey Covington, and Carlos Santana on guitar. It's one of the last psychedelic jams, and it's beautiful!

"Crazy Miranda" is Grace's cloudy German ode to a kind of lonely spinster that she seems to be praising and mocking simultaneously - it's one of the greatest Grace Slick's songs, and her piano works excels here.

"Law Man" is a wonderful pop song with Grace Slick on vocals.

"Wild Turkey" is another fantastic blues jam with Papa John Creach soaring on the electric violin.

“Bark” is still one of the favorite ‘Jefferson Airplane’ albums that one can enjoy in its entirety. “GREAT” album overall.

Released: 1973
Genre: Rock

Jazz-Rock, Pop Rock, Classic Rock
.

“Abandoned Luncheonette” is the 2nd. album by the American pop music duo ‘Daryl Hall & John Oates’, which combines folk, Philly soul, and acoustic soul.

The most well-known track from the album is "She's Gone", one of the act's best-loved songs; Daryl Hall, according to some reports, has called it the best song he and John Oates wrote together. Both performers were undergoing romantic problems at the time the song was written.

“Abandoned Luncheonette” is the most commercially successful of their first three albums of the Atlantic Records period. 29-years after its release, the album was certified “Platinum” (over 1-million copies sold) by the Recording Industry Association of America (R.I.A.A.)

Critically acclaimed, ‘Rolling Stone’ and ‘Allmusic’ both gave it a “5/5” rating.

In total, the duo had 34 singles chart hits on the US Billboard Hot 100. Hall and Oates have ‘7’ R.I.A.A. “Platinum” albums, along with ‘6’ R.I.A.A. “Gold” albums.

In 2003, Hall and Oates were inducted into the “Songwriters Hall of Fame”.

Billboard Magazine had Hall & Oates at ‘No.15’ on their list of the “100 greatest artists of all time” and the ‘No.1“duo”.

VH1 placed the duo as ‘No.99’ on their list of the “100 greatest artists of all time”.

24. Daryl Hall John Oates - Private Eyes RM55

.

.

Label: RCA – AFL1-4028
Country: US
Released: 1981
Genre:
Pop Rock, R&B, Funk/Soul
.

“Private Eyes” is the 10th. studio album from blue-eyed soul duo ‘Daryl Hall & John Oates’. A hit, it stands as a notable album for the music of the decade, combining Pop, Rock, R&B and Soul genres.

The album includes two No.1 hits — "Private Eyes" & "I Can't Go for That (No Can Do)", as well as the Top 10 hit "Did It in a Minute".

"I Can't Go for That (No Can Do)" also spent a week at the top of the R&B charts – a rare accomplishment for a "white" act.

While the "Private Eyes" tune remains a rock-and-soul signature of the duo, its huge success was eclipsed by the 2nd. single from the “Private Eyes” album - "I Can't Go for That (No Can Do)" released in 1981. It topped the pop, R&B and dance club charts.

It remains one of the few songs by a white act to top both Pop and R&B, and among the most heavily-sampled songs in the history of Hip hop.

The other charted songs from the “Private Eyes” album include the Top 40 hit "Your Imagination" and "Did It in a Minute", a Top Ten hit with a similar rhythm to "Private Eyes" & "Kiss On My List".

Among the other entries on the album is "Looking for a Good Sign" which the duo dedicates to the ‘The Temptations’, a major influence on Hall and Oates.

Hall & Oates also sang with ‘The Temptations’ at their “Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame” induction ceremony.

Hall & Oates's biggest success would come the following year with the album “H2O”, but many critics term “Private Eyes” as their creative and cultural peak, not only for its artistic and commercial success but for its influence.

25. Sweet — Give Us A Wink RM60
.
.

Label: Capitol Records – ST-11496
Country: US
Released: 1976
Genre: Rock
Style: Glam, Hard Rock, Heavy Metal
.

“Give Us A Wink” is the 1st. album by the popular British glam rock group ‘Sweet’. Many reviewers/critics rate this the “best hard rock” album released in 1976.
..
.
“Give Us A Wink” reached No.3 in Sweden, No.9 in Germany and made it into the Top 20 in Norway, Canada and Australia. In the US it reached No.27.

.
“Give Us A Wink” continued the groups move towards AOR (album-oriented rock) and reached “Gold” sales in America. The band had full artistic control on this album, which yielded solid songwriting and production that had a “hard-rock” sound, but with “pop” sensibilities.

.

The original 'Sweet' was formed by bassist/vocalist Steve Priest along with vocalist Brian Connolly, drummer Mick Tucker and guitarist Frank Torpey (later replaced by Andy Scott) in the UK and rose to fame with such hits as "Ballroom Blitz", "Fox on the Run", "Love is Like Oxygen", "Little Willy", "Hellraiser", "Teenage Rampage", "Blockbuster", "Action", and many others.

.
“Give Us A Wink” is a VERY exciting, melodic, and instantly enjoyable glam rock album. Talk about vocal melodies galore, haha… this album is packed with SEVERAL melodies.

.
In many respects this album represents Sweet's heaviest hour and also one of its finest. Songs such as "Keep it In", "Yesterday's Rain" and "White Mice" are loaded with lots of great riffs courtesy of Andy Scott and God knows what pills Mick Tucker was on as his drumming seems almost hyperactive.

.
"White Mice" is pure adrenaline-rushing heavy rock… gotta to love it. The chorus is oddly appealing the way the guitar is played.

.
"4th of July" is one of the all time favourite ‘Sweet’ songs… the meandering keyboards and subtle guitar work with the drug oriented lyrics provide for quite a surreal song which ends with one hell of a bang!

.
"Action" is another one of the great ‘Sweet’ songs. Possibly their best. With cash registers ringing, screaming vocals and guitars duelling, this song is loaded with energy - gotta love that (it made to No.6 in Australia, and No.1 in Germany).

.
"Lies in your Eyes" is a much more commercial song. It has a very strong melody. An immediate highlight.

.
Brian Connolly was damn good at singing heavy rock. And Steve Priest sure knew how to keep the tempo of a song up with frentic bass playing, his vocal interludes and overlaid harmonies.

.
We finally get to answer the age old question: How high can Andy Scott sing? Andy takes it to new heights in "The Lies in Your Eyes" putting the “Bee Gees” best vocal efforts to shame. ‘Sweet’ always had incredible vocals. A few bands except ‘Queen’ had guys that could sing like this. There's only one way to play this album and that is VERY LOUD. The way it was intended.

.
Sweet’ completely mastered the heavy rock genre on this album. You can feel them bubbling with energy in every song, in every note. If you're into heavy rock, I strongly recommend you buy this album.

.

This album rocks !!
“Give Us A Wink” is one of the best albums from the great British band ‘Sweet’. It features some of the best tracks performed by the band which is very highly recommended. This is a great band to collect by any standards, and this is a gem in their catalog.

26. John Mayall - The Turning Point RM120
.

.
.
Label: Polydor – 24-4004
Country: US
Released: 1969
Genre:
Jazz-Blues, Rock

.

John Mayall - Godfather of British Blues.

.
John Mayall’ is a pioneering English blues and rock singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist.
.
His musical career spans over 50-years, but the most notable episode in it occurred during the late '60s.
.
As a gifted talent-scout, he has been influential in the careers of many instrumentalists, including Eric Clapton, Jack Bruce, Peter Green, John McVie, Mick Fleetwood, Mick Taylor, Don "Sugarcane" Harris, Harvey Mandel, Larry Taylor, Aynsley Dunbar, Hughie Flint, Jon Hiseman, Dick Heckstall-Smith, Andy Fraser, Johnny Almond, Jon Mark, Walter Trout, Coco Montoya, and Buddy Whittington.
.
.
“The Turning Point”, a LIVE recording at the Fillmore East, was his most successful release.

A heavy lead-guitar sound was abandoned for an intimate setup of acoustic and slide guitars, bass, sax, flute and percussion on this LIVE jazz-blues fusion genre album.

The lack of drums was in fact key to the clear, intimate sound Mayall was seeking. Structured to allow virtuoso playing, his highly atmospheric songs are driven along by the bass and acoustic guitars, with instrumental solos emerging from and gliding above their intricate backing rhythms.

Mayall's vocals, guitar & harmonica underpin some excellent blues and R&B, while Almond's inspired sax & flute breaks lift several numbers into the realms of pure jazz.

As the ‘Melody Maker’ commented at the time: "The range of sounds and moods they obtain is staggering, but the group's most remarkable feature is their seemingly effortless interaction and the drifting, almost distant, feel this stimulates."

The ecstatic response
of the New York crowd mirrors my own reaction on seeing the band a few weeks earlier in the slightly less exalted surroundings of the Slough Adelphi.
.
Standing in a circle, with simple lighting, low amplification, no drummer and one member (Mark) seated on a canteen chair they seemed small and insignificant.
.
But when they played, they just soared, taking the audience with them. To capture their unique style required a LIVE recording and “The Turning Point” does just that.

Showcasing them in “superb form” as they create beautiful, enthusiastic and often highly introspective music that stands out across time.

The rest of the album is filled with wonderful and intricate musicianship. The guitar, flute and sax interplay is sheer calming brilliance. Mayall and his group think loose and play tight like the “best” of jazz musicians.

A true “SUPERB” album !!

AGAIN:- A true “SUPERB” album !!
.
There is only one album like this ever made/recorded. It is totally “unique”. I have explored records and musicians. I have talked to the most knowledgeable music people I can find. They agree it is a “great album” and there is no other album like it. When ever I am asked to name some of my favorite albums this is always the “first” on my list.
.
The sound is a blend of string and wind instruments without drums. Each song offers something different in sound and flavour.

If you like to listen to “great live moments” in musical history then you need to add this to your collection and no collection of Rock, Blues or Jazz is complete until this album is added to the said collection.

This piece of work is a “MUST HAVE”
!!

27. David Bromberg — Wanted Dead or Alive RM55.00
.

.
Label: Columbia – C 32717
Country: US
Released: 1974
Genre:
Jazz, Blues Rock
.
.
David Bromberg’ is an American multi-instrumentalist, singer, and songwriter. Bromberg has an eclectic style, playing bluegrass, blues, folk, jazz, country and western, and rock n roll equally well. He is known for his quirky, humorous lyrics, and the ability to play rhythm and lead guitar at the same time.
..
In 2008, David Bromberg was nominated for a ‘Grammy Award’ for “Try Me One More Time” album which includes Bob Dylan's "It Takes a Lot to Laugh, It Takes a Train to Cry".
.
“Wanted Dead or Alive” was David Bromberg's 3rd. album. Side 1 of the LP was recorded in the studio while Side 2 was recorded LIVE, released by Columbia Records as a vinyl LP in 1974.

The title “Wanted Dead or Alive” is a play on words, referring to how the record was created. Side one of the LP was recorded in the studio with various musicians. Side two was recorded LIVE.

Features some of his best tunes, including a remake of the catchy pseudo-mariachi number he co-wrote with ex-Beatles George Harrison, "The Hold-Up".

CRITICAL RECEPTION:

Writing in Driftwood Magazine in 2011, Craig Harris said :

.

"With their masterfully executed mix of America’s musical roots, the albums released by David Bromberg in the mid-1970s remain as much fun as they were more than a third of a century ago Reaching into what he does best, Bromberg came up with an album full of spirit, high energy and musical diversity. Opening with a galloping reprisal of "The Holdup", his collaboration with George Harrison, Bromberg and cohorts… rarely let up. While his vocals were anything but luscious, Bromberg's deep, growl-like singing made every word heartfelt. Showing the depths of his songwriting with four self-composed tunes Bromberg uses the guitar picking styles that he had learned as a student and protege of bluesman Reverend Gary Davis as springboards for discovery."

.

According to Allmusic :

.

"Some of Bromberg's strongest and best-loved material can be found here, including "The Holdup", "Danger Man", "Send Me to the 'Lectric Chair", "The New Lee Highway Blues", and Bob Dylan's "Wallflower".

As a '60s and '70s session man, ‘David Bromberg’ lent his blues skill to records by Bob Dylan, Tom Paxton and Jerry Jeff Walker. But none of that work suggested his talents as an arranger, his full command of diverse American genres, nor his husky, moving vocals.
This '74 album/LP is a fine place to start with Bromberg, and songs like "Send Me to the 'Lectric Chair" and his medly of "Statesboro Blues/Church Bells Blues" serve notice of the talent of this overlooked, roots-music master.
.
Excellent album showcasing ecclectic musical tastes of ‘David Bromberg’. Just his solo, acoustic rendition of the medley "Statesboro Blues/Church Bell Blues" is well worth the price of this LP!
.
Listen as he comes around for the 2nd. chorus on "Statesboro": you can actually hear the guitar sound like a freight train, as it builds a head of steam, while David belts out the lyrics. Turn this number up as far as you can stand it for full musical enjoyment!
.
This is timeless music. There is so much great music on the album that you can listen to over & over again. Bromberg is truly a unique artist. This album is a worthy addition to anyone who appreciates the real folk blues or the funky, full sound of David Bromberg's big band.
.
He has a well deserved reputation as a great guitarist. Some of the songs here might be considered novelty songs.
.
This is a near-classic collection of music that shows off Bromberg's musicianship in several ways. The interpretations of the tunes are still fresh, creative and compelling.
.
The music is fun and energetic. Great blues and humor that makes each song a favorite. These days when most albums have one or two pretty good songs, it is nice to listen to an album where every one is good. Intelligent and well-crafted, the music will work for the critical or casual listener.
.
You owe it to yourself to get this album. Among everything else, it's just a lot of fun.

Profile:
American multi-instrumentalist (guitar, dobro, mandolin, fiddle, bass), singer, producer, arranger and engineer. As well as releasing numerous solo albums, he has played with musicians such as Bob Dylan, Carly Simon, Eagles, Ringo Starr, Willie Nelson, Gordon Lightfoot, Bonnie Raitt, Doug Sahm, and Tom Paxton.

28. Jethro Tull - M.U. - The Best Of Jethro TullRM60
.

.

.
Label: Chrysalis – CHR 1078
Country: US
Released: 1975
Genre:
Progressive Rock, Hard Rock
.
Jethro Tull’ is a Grammy Award-winning British rock group that formed in 1967-1968. Their music is marked by the distinctive “vocal style” and “lead flute work” of front man Ian Anderson.

Jethro Tull’ were, by the mid-70s, one of the most successful live performing acts on the world stage, rivalling Zeppelin, Elton John and even the Rolling Stones. The group has released some 30-odd albums and sales totalling more than 50 million records.

“M.U. – The Best of Jethro Tull”, released in 1976, is the first proper greatest hits album by ‘Jethro Tull’. It spans the years 1969-75.

“M.U.” in the album title stood for "Musician's Union", which probably is a reference to musicians from different line-ups of the band being virtually together on the compilation album.

The album peaked at No.44 in the UK charts and No.13 in the US, and went “Gold” in the UK, Australia & New Zealand, and “Platinum” (over 1-million sales) in the US and Canada.

This album is the best "Best Of" collection of Jethro Tull that you can find (for the
money). It's definately the "best" of ‘Jethro Tull’.

This is it! If you are trying to get a glimpse of the greatness that ‘Jethro Tull’ was/is/are… this is the place to start. It captures the best of all the pre-1979 albums and can turn you into a fan in just one listening.

“M.U. – The Best of Jethro Tull” captured me… I personally love every track on the album and you will too.

I'm a die-hard ‘Journey’ fan, and of all their albums, “Frontiers” is my favorite. This album contains beautiful heartfelt power ballads like "Send Her My Love", "After The Fall" and "Faithfully", and jamming rock anthems like "Seperate Ways", and "Chain Reaction".

Asia Band - Asia Rock Band : The first Asia album was really great. I loved the use of synths and guitars to create certain ambience with lots of personality. I was a big fan of Geoff Downes during that era. The photo below is a live shot of the band during their first tour. The amount of keyboards and synths Geoff brought along is simply amazing. I don't think any band in the 70's or 80's had that many various synths and keyboards on the road. The original members are Geoff Downes, John Wetton, Steve Howe and Carl Palmer (see 3rd picture above), but the membership has seen many changes over the years, with celebrated musicians popping in and out of the band.

Although they have not achieved the critical acclaim one would expect of their respectable rock credentials, but for a few brief, shining moments, ‘Asia"ruled the music world".
