Was this photo one of the rejects for the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue of the day? . One can only imagine... . . . . Imported Original used/preowned vinyl LPs for Sale. . . 1. Diana Ross - Diana Ross — RM40 . . Genre: Soul / Disco. Label: Motown Released: 1976 . Diana Ernestine Earle Ross is an American singer and actress. Ross was lead singer of the Motown group The Supremes during the 1960s. After leaving the group in 1970, Ross began a solo career that included successful ventures into film and Broadway. She received a Best Actress Academy Award nomination for her role as Billie Holiday in Lady Sings the Blues (1972), for which she won a Golden Globe award. She won 8 American Music Awards, garnered twelve Grammy Award nominations, and won a Tony Award for her one-woman show, An Evening with Diana Ross, in 1977. . In 1976, Billboard magazine named her the "Female Entertainer of the Century." In 1993, the Guinness Book of World Records declared Diana Ross the most successful female music artist in history due to her success in the United States and United Kingdom for having more hits than any female artist in the charts with a career total of 18 number one records in the United States. Diana Ross has sold more than 100 million records worldwide. . Ross is one of the few recording artists to have two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame—one as a solo artist and the other as a member of The Supremes. In December 2007, she received a John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts Honors Award. . Diana Ross is a 1976 album by Diana Ross for the Motown label, her second self-titled LP (the first was her 1970 debut album, later rereleased as Ain't No Mountain High Enough). The album was Ross' biggest-selling album since 1973's "Touch Me in the Morning", and the first of Ross' albums since her debut to yield more than four hit singles. It reached No.5 on the US Billboard 200 album chart, No.4 on the US Billboard R&B Album Chart and the Top 10 in the UK. . Two of Diana Ross' singles became No.1 hits: "Theme from Mahogany (Do You Know Where You're Going To)" (also included on the Mahogany soundtrack), and the disco anthem, "Love Hangover". Both singles helped break the album into the top ten, and also helped silence any rumors that Ross' music career was faltering. . . . 2. Diana Ross - Swept Away — RM40 . . Genre: R&B, Pop. Label: RCA Released: 1984
. Swept Away is a 1984 album released by Diana Ross on the RCA label. . This album yielded major hit singles with the Daryl Hall-produced "Swept Away" (No.19 Pop, No.3 R&B) and the Julio Iglesias duet, "All of You" (No.19 Pop, No.32 R&B, No.2 AC), as well as the Lionel Richie-produced "Missing You" (No.10 Pop, No.1 R&B, No.4 AC) which was a tribute to late soul singer Marvin Gaye, who was Ross and Richie's former Motown Records label mate. All three singles were accompanied by hugely successful music videos. . The album also included the No.13 R&B single, "Telephone", produced by Bernard Edwards. Swept Away was certified gold by the end of the 1984. It eventually sold nearly 900,000 copies by the time it was taken out of print. It peaked at No.26 on Billboard's Top Album Charts, making this her last album to break the Top 40 until "I Love You" in 2007 - 23 years later. . . . .
3. Frida (ex-ABBA group) - Something's Going On — RM45 . Genre: Pop. Label: Atlantic U.S. Released: 1982
. Something's Going On was the first solo-album in English for ABBA singer Anni-Frid Lyngstad (Frida). Her previous albums had all been recorded in Swedish. Something's Going On was first released in 1982 and has since then been re-released several times, mainly in 2005 in re-mastered form with bonus tracks. The promotion videos from this album, are included in the 3 1/2 hour documentary Frida - The DVD. . . At the time of recording Something's Going On Frida wanted to distance herself from the "typical ABBA pop sound". She wanted to break away from being associated with the group and make a fresh start both as an artist and as an individual. The new songs, new musicians, and new producer gave Frida a new identity. Phil Collins' production and especially his unique gated drum sound heard throughout the album as well as the rough and raw guitar riffs of the lead single "I Know There's Something Going On" made it perfectly clear this was no lightweight ABBA record. All backing vocals were sung by Frida and Phil. The album closes with their duet "Here We'll Stay". Swedish Television, SVT, documented this historical event, by filming the whole recording process. From day one in the studio to the release party when the album was completed. The result became a one hour TV-special, including interviews with Frida and Phil, Björn & Benny from Abba, as well as all the musicians on the album. This documentary is included in Frida - The DVD. . . The album received positive reviews by critics. Billboard wrote: "ABBA's auburn-haired songstress makes a bold solo-project a stunning success" and Mark Coleman described the album in the third edition of Rolling Stone Album Guide as a "sharp, rock-oriented, delightfully eclectic album". . Audiences around the world also accepted the new, rockier sound and both the album and its lead single soon started climbing the charts; the single became a No.1 hit in France (where it spent five weeks at the top), Belgium, Switzerland and Costa Rica, and reached the Top 10 elsewhere throughout Europe. It also became a huge success in Australia and South Africa - it peaked at No.5 on both charts. In the United States, the single reached a respectable No.13 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and No.9 on Radio & Records airplay. The single was heavily promoted on MTV. The single sold some 3.5 million copies and Frida as a solo artist did in fact far better on the charts than any of the ABBA-singles of 1982. The album sold 1.5 million copies worldwide, making this the best-selling solo project of any of the former ABBA members to date. A notable exception to its success was in the UK, traditionally a hugely popular market for ABBA, but the single never got in to top 40. The album, however, was a top 20 hit (peaking at No.18). Cyrus

. 6. Sheila E. - Sheila E. — RM45 .
CGenre: Funk, Pop, R&B. Label: Paisley Park, Warner Bros. Released: 1987
Sheila Escovedo, known by her stage name Sheila E., is an American drummer and percussionist, perhaps best known for her work with Prince and Ringo Starr. . She made her recording debut with jazz bassist Alphonso Johnson on "Yesterday's Dream" in 1976. By her early twenties she had already played with George Duke, Lionel Richie, Marvin Gaye, Herbie Hancock, and Diana Ross. She also plays tuba and guitar. . Prince met Sheila E. at a concert in 1978. The two would eventually join forces during the Purple Rain recording sessions. She provided vocals on the B-side to "Let's Go Crazy", "Erotic City" in 1983/84. Though taken under Prince's wing, she proved to be a successful artist in her own right. In 1984 she scored hits with "The Glamorous Life" (No.7 on the Hot 100), and "The Belle of St. Mark" (No.34), the latter an NME 'Single of the Week'. . . Sheila E. has performed three stints with Ringo Starr & His All-Starr Band, in 2001, 2003, and 2006. Her drum "duets" with Starr are a moment of comic relief in the show, where they play the same parts but he quickly falls behind, shrugs and smiles as she takes off on an extended percussion solo. Says Sheila E.: "Ringo truly is one of the greatest rock n' roll drummers in the history of music. He enjoys the joke!". . . Sheila E. has collaborated many times with other artists, notably with Gloria Estefan for whom she played the timbales. Sheila E. first collaborated with Estefan on Estefan's first Spanish language studio album Mi Tierra in 1993, and in 2007 with Estefan's smash hit "No Llores" in which Estefan also collaborates with Carlos Santana and José Feliciano. . Sheila E. is the third solo album from Sheila E., released on Paisley Park Records. Sheila E. produced two singles, "Hold Me" and "Koo Koo" in the U.S. "Love on a Blue Train" was the first single released in Japan. The album is notable for its Latin influence and prominent presence in this hybrid of jazz, rock, funk and salsa. The video for "Koo Koo" features Sheila dancing with Cat Glover. . Chart Positions Chart (1987).........................Chart Position U.S. Billboard 200......................54 U.S. Billboard R&B Albums........24s
. Sheila E's 1987 album is still my favorite one by her. Even though it came during a year that Whitney Houston, U2, Whitesnake, Motley Crue,LL Cool J, Michael Jackson and others dominated the music charts, this is a very funky album. I still love Koo Koo with its tribal drums hitting on there! I even danced to it in a program because it just jumped out of left field. And even though it peaked at No. 35 on the R&B chart and its video got some airplay on MTV and BET, it has a strong message in it while still remaining funky. David Z (or it is really Prince who came up with those funky grooves?) gives Sheila E some strong numbers here. Hold Me surprised many people, proving that Sheila E could kick it on a ballad. But what wins on this collection is Sheila playing the drums and percussion so very well like she did on Romance 1600 and In The Glamourous Life. Though she's moved on to gospel and jazz sounds, this album reflects her many strengths as an artist and musician. . The best song on the LP for me is definitely "Love on a Blue Train," which shows exactly how much talent Ms. E. has. It's a long, very musical offering with a great jazzy feel. Another of my favorites is "Wednesday Like a River." Sort of folksy jazz, if there can be such a thing. "Hold Me" is the power ballad on the LP, and I love it too. "Boy's Club" shows how much influence Prince had on her, what with the sexual innuendo, and Soul Salsa shows her Latin side. This is a great album for fans of the "talented chameleon performer" genre. .

Among the songs she sang on were King Floyd's "Groove Me", and her former "Poppie" bandmate Dorothy Moore's 1976 Top 10 single, "Misty Blue". . By then having settled as a housewife, Kinney in 1979 decided to attempt a comeback, and she recorded her own version of "Groove Me", but changed the rhythm on the song to turn it into a disco dance track. The song reached No.6 on the Billboard dance chart. Her next single "Together We Are Beautiful", released in 1980 was another disco song, but with a slower and more sultry beat. It had been recorded by the British vocalist, Steve Allan, eighteen months earlier. It reached No.1 in the United Kingdom. . Genre: Pop/rock. Label: Atlantic. Released: 1983 . Carole King is an American singer, songwriter, and pianist. King and her former husband Gerry Goffin wrote more than two dozen chart hits for numerous artists during the 1960s, many of which have become standards. As a singer, King's album Tapestry topped the U.S. album chart for 15 weeks, in 1971, and remained on the charts for more than six years. . She was most successful as a performer in the first half of the 1970s, although she was a successful songwriter long before and long after. She had her first No. 1 hit as a songwriter in 1961, at age 18, with "Will You Love Me Tomorrow", which she wrote with Gerry Goffin. In 1997, she co-wrote "The Reason" for Celine Dion. In 2000, Joel Whitburn, a Billboard Magazine pop music researcher, named her the most successful female songwriter of 1955-99, because she wrote or co-wrote 118 pop hits on the Billboard Hot 100. . King has made 25 solo albums, the most successful being Tapestry. Her most recent non-compilation album is Live at the Troubadour, a collaboration with James Taylor, which reached No.4 on the charts in its first week, and has sold over 400,000 copies. . She has won four Grammy Awards and was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for her songwriting. In 2009, Carole King was inducted into the "Hit Parade" Hall of Fame. She holds the record for the longest time for an album by a female to remain on the charts and the longest time for an album by a female to hold the No.1 position, both for Tapestry. . Speeding Time is an album by American singer-songwriter Carole King, released in 1983. Her songs continue to be excellent, her vocals moving and the musicianship first rate. "Speeding Time" is a very good record in the Carole King catalog, 'Alabaster Lady' is the song that most love on this Lp, strong vocal performance..other highlights are 'Crying in the rain' & 'So Ready For Love' (which could've been a hit). Very good songs that one and only Carole King could deliver!

Melissa Manchester is an American singer-songwriter and actress. Beginning in the 1970s, she has recorded generally in the adult contemporary genre. . In 1982 Melissa scored her biggest hit ever, "You Should Hear How She Talks About You", which won a Grammy for Best Female Vocal Performance and reached at No.5 on the Billboard charts. Surprisingly it was her last Top 40 Pop hit, but Manchester continued to place singles on the Adult Contemporary charts throughout the 1980s. Her last top 10 entry on the AC chart was a 1989 updating of Dionne Warwick's "Walk On By". The single was pulled from album "Tribute," which honored some of the singers that influenced her style. . EMERGENCY is produced by Arif Martin after her successful collaboration for her 2nd highest charted HEY RICKY album that spawned her highest Billboard singles chart with the No. 5 disco hit "You Should Hear How She Talks About You," which also won her a Grammy for Best Female Vocal Performance. Let's get one fact out of the way - Melissa Manchester is one of the best there is. Tremendous songwriting skills, amazing vocal talent. EMERGENCY remains one of my very favorite of her albums. The album certainly fit its time period. It is an album full of '80s pop songs. Melissa Manchester had made the transition from the '70s and had adapted well to the synthsizer- and drum-machine-driven pop of the early '80s. But beyond the slick production were some really GOOD songs. "White Rose" and "Time" certainly rank with Ms. Manchester's best ballads. . Fans of early '80s pop will definitely enjoy it. Melissa is at her best vocally on this album and the songs are fun dance tunes with the exception of the final track "Time" and "White Rose." Both of these songs put Manchester back in her real comfort zone - the power-ballad. While she has alluded to the idea that she was never really happy with these recordings because it was not what she really liked to do, this album is far superior to her latest release where she sings as if she's been smoking a few too many funny cigarettes. . Personally, I always treasured the fact that she was always very clear in her diction and accurate pitch. This album really shows off her versatility to be just as hip as Madonna while still taking on the likes of Streisand in the ballads. Buy this album if you love Manchester's voice. . .

. . 15. Kim Carnes - Barking At Airplanes — RM45 . Cyrus
Genre: Pop, Pop-rock. Label: EMI. Released: 1985 Kim Carnes is a US singer-songwriter. She is a two-time Grammy Award winner noted for her distinctive raspy vocal style. Some people have called her "The Female Rod Stewart" due to her raspy voice. . Barking at Airplanes is a studio album by Kim Carnes, released in 1985. The album spawned two hit singles, "Crazy in the Night" and "Abadabadango", which peaked at No.15 and No.67 on Billboard Magazine's Hot 100, respectively. In 1980 her duet with Kenny Rogers "Don't Fall in Love with a Dreamer" became a major hit on the Pop (No. 4), Country (No. 3) and AC (No. 2) charts. . The rock tracks here just kick it, while the ballads are deeply heart-wrenching. This upbeat LP is Kim Carnes at her finest! Her unique voice soars...the music is mature and smart, yet youthful and fun. The entire LP is '80s pop at its very best... a HIGHLY recommended LP to any fan of '80s pop. Certainly a masterpiece. This album is getting harder and harder to find...so if you like psychologically intelligent 80s pop, hurry and get this. This album is a perfect time capsule from the 80's. It's a fantastic example of the melodic, catchy and emotional music that was made in that great decade. . . .

. 16. Rick Springfield - Tao — RM45 . . Cyrus
Genre: Pop rock, hard rock
“Grammy Award-winner” and long-time fan favorite, ‘Rick Springfield’, is an Australian-born pop singer-songwriter and musician.
He had a No.1 hit with "Jessie's Girl" in 1981 in both Australia and the US. He received the Grammy Award for “Best Male Rock Vocal Performance” for "Jessie's Girl".
He followed with four more top 10 US hits, "I've Done Everything for You", "Don't Talk to Strangers", "Affair of the Heart" and "Love Somebody".
His two US top 10 albums are “Working Class Dog” (1981) and “Success Hasn't Spoiled Me Yet” (1982).
Springfield released the album “Tao” in 1985, scoring several modest hits from this release, including "State of the Heart" and "Celebrate Youth."
Rick's musical expansion and maturity are clearly evident in “Tao”. The well known singles are great "Celebrate Youth", "Dance This World Away" and "State of the Heart".
"Dance This World Away" and "Celebrate Youth" are ‘classic’ songs. . . Best Track: . You must listen to "My Father's Chair" - very touching, a tribute to his dad, you can just hear the feeling in his voice as he sings the words and plays his piano. It mellows out this very energetic album. Rick was totally in control of this piece, and it feels great. I love this album. Add it to your collection; you won't be disappointed. This is Rick's best album.
Tracklist:
1. Dance This World Away 2. Celebrate Youth 3. State of the Heart 4. Written in Rock 5. The Power of Love 6. Walking on the Edge 7. Walk Like a Man 8. The Tao of Heaven 9. Stranger in the House 10. My Father's Chair
This was the most different music from Rick Springfield in the 80's that will last a lifetime.
Some of the songs, especially "My Fathers Chair" and "State of the Heart", will live on forever.
It kept him on top of the charts after "Love Somebody" was a Top 5 single the year before.
The songs on this album are just amazing and really help you look inside yourself and feel at peace, even with Rick Rockin away! .
. . . 17. Rick Springfield - Working Class Dog — RM55 . . Cyrus
Genre: Rock, power pop, pop rock
“Working Class Dog” was the album that made ‘Rick Springfield’ an international music star. True, Springfield had released albums prior to “Working Class Dog”, but this was the release that set him into the pop music stratosphere.
“Working Class Dog” includes Rick Springfield's most well known hit "Jessie's Girl." Other popular songs on the album include "I've Done Everything For You," and "Love Is Alright Tonite."
Springfield released “Working Class Dog” in 1981. It spawned the single, "Jessie's Girl", which peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and the Australian Kent Music Report Singles Chart. It became a worldwide hit.
Springfield won the 1981 Grammy Award for ‘Best Male Rock Vocal Performance’.
His two US top 10 albums are “Working Class Dog” (1981) and “Success Hasn't Spoiled Me Yet” (1982).
“Working Class Dog” reached No.7 on the Billboard 200. Another top 10 single from the album was the Sammy Hagar-penned "I've Done Everything for You". . . Tracklist:
1. "Love Is Alright Tonite" 2. "Jessie's Girl" 3. "Hole in My Heart" 4. "Carry Me Away" 5. "I've Done Everything for You" (Sammy Hagar) 6. "The Light of Love" 7. "Everybody's Girl" 8. "Daddy's Pearl" 9. "Red Hot & Blue Love" 10. "Inside Silvia" . . CHARTS:
“Working Class Dog” - No.7 on Billboard 200 album charts. "Jessie's Girl" - No.1 on Billboard Hot 100 singles. "I've Done Everything for You" - No.8 on Billboard Hot 100. "Love Is Alright Tonight" - No.40 on Billboard Mainstream Rock Tracks. . . For me this and his album “Tao” go back and forth in 1st placing depending how I feel at any given moment. Its kind of like how I feel about “Star Wars” vs “Empire Strikes Back”. I like both but they trade places depending on my mood.
Ultimately I lean toward “Working Class Dog” (like I lean toward “Star Wars”) for the 1st. placing but definitely a close 2nd if not tied for 1st.
“Working Class Dog” is probably one of the best albums of modern 80s rock. .. . .
18. Billy Joel - Turnstiles — RM45 . Genre: Rock
Singer-songwriter ‘Billy Joel’ Joel has had a multi-award winning career, selling over 150-million albums and taking his music all around the world. His musical output has changed over his 40 year career, influenced by classical, blues, and rock & roll.
In addition to his multiple awards, including ‘Grammys’ and ‘American Music Awards’, his contribution to the music industry saw him inducted into the ‘Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’ in 1999. In 2005 he was given a star on the ‘Hollywood Walk of Fame’.
“Turnstiles” was the 4th. album by Billy Joel. On this 1976 ‘classic’, the album was made to celebrate Joel's return to New York City after his sojourn in California.
Three of the album's tracks reference New York: "Summer, Highland Falls", "New York State of Mind" and "Miami 2017 (Seen the Lights Go Out on Broadway)". Joel begins with "Say Goodbye to Hollywood".
Musically this is a ‘solid album’ for Billy Joel. Billy's piano is center stage, but there is also some interesting percussion and saxophone.
Overall this is a superb album. It sets the stage nicely for Billy Joel to enter the most successful phase of his career.
This is his best album, beating out the “Stranger” slightly. It's musically and lyrically ‘brilliant’. Probably in the Top 20 rock albums and even higher in terms of song-writing. This is ‘highly recommended’ for Billy Joel fan.
Although past Joel's works are great, this is the first one that it could be said with all security that it's a ‘masterpiece’. A must have album! . . Tracklist: Written and composed by Billy Joel.
1. "Say Goodbye to Hollywood" 2. "Summer, Highland Falls" 3. "All You Wanna Do Is Dance" 4. "New York State of Mind" 5. "James" 6. "Prelude/Angry Young Man" 7. "I've Loved These Days" 8. "Miami 2017 (Seen the Lights Go Out on Broadway)" . . Chart positions and certifications:

. . . . . 19. Billy Joel - The Nylon Curtain — RM45 . Genre: Rock
Singer-songwriter ‘Billy Joel’ has had a multi-award winning career, selling over 150-million albums and taking his music worldwide.
“The Nylon Curtain” is the 8th. studio album by Billy Joel, released by Columbia Records in 1982.
“The Nylon Curtain” peaked at No.7 in the Billboard album charts, with ‘2-million sales’ in the United States alone. “The Nylon Curtain” is hard to beat - a must for not just Billy Joel fans, but for music fans.
The album is best known for bringing global attention to the plight of Allentown, Pennsylvania. "Allentown" spent an unprecedented 6-weeks at No.17 on the Billboard Hot 100. It was one of the most played radio songs of the early 1980s, along with another Top 20 hit "Pressure".
The album is among the most ambitious of Joel's albums. It is unusual for Joel's work in its direct homage to and influence of the music of ‘The Beatles’ and ‘John Lennon’ (in particular "Laura," "Surprises," "Scandinavian Skies" and "Where's the Orchestra?"). Joel seems compelled to act as both Lennon and McCartney on this heavily ‘Beatles’-influenced album.
Pop-culture journalist ‘Chuck Klosterman’ praised the album, particularly "Laura" and "Where's the Orchestra?" quite heavily in his book Sex, Drugs, and Cocoa Puffs. . . Track listing: Songs written/composed by Billy Joel
Side one 1."Allentown" 2."Laura" 3."Pressure" 4."Goodnight Saigon"

20. Julio Iglesias - A Flor De Piel — RM40 . Cyrus
Genre: Latin, Pop
Here is the warm-soothing voice of the young ‘Julio Iglesias’ before the US discovered him. You can still imagine the young Spanish soccer star wannabe who took up guitar while an injury healed.
One of the first songs of Julio Iglesias. What a memories! Doesn't matter how old you are, you will ‘fall in love’ again with these songs. The music here is early 70s, incredibly romantic Latin ballads.
The Julio who sings it is ‘young’ and at his absolute prime as far as belting out the ‘true love’ bingers - take romance and make it total erotic pleasure. . . Track song:
1 A Flor de Piel 2 Vivir (I Need) 3 Dicen 4 Manuela (Portuguese) 5 Un Adios a Media Voz 6 Te Quiero Asi (If I Love You So) 7 Por el Amor de una Mujer 8 Desde Que Tu Te Has Ido 9 Aun Me Qued a la Esperanza 10 En Cualquier Parte (Another Time, Another Place)
This is one of the ‘most important’ records of his career because it paved the way for establishing Iglesias as the ‘major Latin singer of the time’. It contains one his biggest hits ever, "Por el Amor de una Mujer."
Other songs, like "Manuela" and "Vivir," became a ‘must-have’ compilations. "Te Quiero Así" is a Spanish version of Don MacLean's "If I Love You So".
An enjoyable and romantic album that features some of his ‘best’ interpretations.
Julio José Iglesias de la Cueva is a ‘Grammy Award’ winning Spanish singer born in 1943 who rose to fame as a debonair crooner of romantic ballads in the 1970s and 1980s. He moved to America in 1985.
His first non-Spanish tracks were on the album “De Niña a Mujer” (1981) which resulted in the No.1 hit "Begin the Beguine". His first fully English language album was 1984's “1100 Bel Air Place”, featuring the hit "To All The Girls I've Loved Before" which was a duet with Willie Nelson.
Throughout his long and extremely successful career he has released a proliferation of Spanish and English language albums - biggest seller in Europe, Latin and North America.
Viva la musica latina! . . . 21. Julio Iglesias - Soy — RM40 . . Genre: Latin, Pop
“Soy” is a 1973 album by Julio Iglesias. A U.S. version was released in 1980. . Track listing:
1. Vivencias 2. En Una Ciudad Cualquiera 3. Soy 4. Minueto 5. Mi Amor Es Mas Joven Que Yo 6. Dieciseis Anos 7. Nina 8. Una Leyenda 9. Asi Nacemos 10. Vete Ya .. A Classic! The Best of “The Best”. . . DO YOU WANT TO BE TRANSPORTED IN TIME ? THIS IS THE KIND OF MUSIC YOU NEED TO LISTEN TO. THINGS TO REMEMBER IN YOUR LIFE; AND MOMENTS TO BOOSTER YOUR SOUL. . . So far one of the best records of Julio I've ever listened, the songs on this record are so full of ‘feeling’ and ‘sentiment’ I never get tired of listening at it, and would recomend it to those who like romantic music.
‘Julio José Iglesias de la Cueva’ is a “Grammy Award” winning Spanish singer born in 1943 who rose to fame as a debonair crooner of romantic ballads in the 1970s and 1980s. He moved to America in 1985.

His first fully English language album was 1984's “1100 Bel Air Place”, featuring the hit "To All The Girls I've Loved Before" which was a duet with ‘Willie Nelson’.
Throughout his long and extremely successful career he has released a proliferation of Spanish and English language albums, concentrating more heavily on the Spanish releases during later years. . . . . 22. Eddie Money - No Control — RM45 .
Genre: Rock / Pop
Mid '82 brought us Eddie Money 4th album the ‘classic’ “NO CONTROL” No.20, this album rocked. The rockers included, "Shakin", No.63 Hot 100 & No.9 on Mainstream rock chart.
“NO CONTROL” is Eddie Money's best album ever, which is amazing. The songs here just plain ROCK!!! "Shakin", "Think I'm In Love", and the title song show Money at the top of his game, making the ‘Springsteen’/‘Seger’ Heartland rock style, as well as the hard rock of ‘Ted Nugent’ and ‘Foghat’, slightly more accessible to pop fans. This wonderful vinyl LP is one that no true 80s rock fan can do without.
‘Eddie Money’ is an American rock guitarist, saxophonist and singer-songwriter who found success in the 1970s and 1980s with a string of Top 40 hits and ‘Platinum’ albums.
Rock impresario Bill Graham said of Money "Eddie Money has it all...Not only can he sing, write and play, but he is a natural performer."
His 1st. album was released in 1977 and it reached a respectable No.37 on the charts, buoyed by the success of two of his most famous hits, “Baby Hold On” and “Two Tickets to Paradise”. Subsequent albums fared well, with “No Control” (1982) spawning further hit singles, and “Can’t Hold Back” (1986) achieving ‘Platinum’ certification.
Track listing:
1. Shakin' 2. Runnin' Away 3. Think I'm in Love 4. Hard Life 5. No Control 6. Take a Little Bit 7. Keep My Motor Runnin' 8. My Friends, My Friends 9. Drivin' Me Crazy 10. Passing By the Graveyard (Song for John B.) 11. It Could Happen To You
This was his best album from the 1980's. Unlike “Can't Hold Back” from 1986 that featured more of his ‘pop’ side “NO CONTROL” featured his ‘rockin’ side!
“NO CONTROL” is probably Eddie's most consistent work. Every song ‘rocked’. "Shakin" and "Think I'm In Love" were the radio hits but other songs were just as good.. "Take A Little Bit", "Runnin Away" and "Hard Life" also rocked. This was the true sound for which old hard-rocking Eddie Money fans will always remember him. .
. . . 23. Eddie Money - Where's The Party — RM45 .
Genre: Pop, Rock
“Where's The Party?” is Eddie Money's fifth album, released in 1983.
After the album “No Control”, “Where's The Party” No.67, is a ‘solid piece’ of rock.
Tunes I really liked were, "Bad Girls", "Big Crash", No.54 Hot 100 and No.17 Mainstream rock. The title track, "Club Michelle", No.66 Hot 100 and the superb song "Backtrack" the only song Jimmy Lyon played on.
Track listing:
1."Maybe Tomorrow" 2."Bad Girls" 3."Club Michelle" 4."Back on the Road" 5."Don't Let Go" 6."The Big Crash" 7."Where's the Party?" 8."Leave It to Me" 9."Backtrack"
This is an excellent album by Eddie Money for all fans of his to buy, this is one of my favorite LP's. .
. . . . 24. Peter Frampton - Breaking All The Rules — RM45 .
Cyrus Genre: Rock, Hard Rock, Pop Rock Style: Arena Rock, Contemporary Pop-Rock
‘Peter Frampton’ is an English musician, singer, producer, guitarist and multi-instrumentalist.
Frampton's international breakthrough album was his live release, “Frampton Comes Alive!”. The album sold over 6 million copies in the United States alone and spawned several hits.
Frampton is best known for such hits as "Show Me the Way", "Baby, I Love Your Way", "Do You Feel Like We Do", and "I'm in You", which to this day, remain staples on ‘classic-rock’ radio.
The “Breaking All the Rules” album had featured a ‘raw live’ in the studio approach which was released to promote Frampton's concert tour in Brazil in 1980.
Track listing:
1."Dig What I Say" 2."I Don't Wanna Let You Go" 3."Rise Up" 4."Wasting the Night Away" 5."Going to L.A." 6."You Kill Me" 7."Friday on My Mind" 8."Lost a Part of You" 9."Breaking All the Rules"
“Breaking All the Rules” is a good, solid effort by Peter Frampton. There is a brilliant hook in "Going to L.A.". A strong vocal from Frampton as well as a strong performance.
"Rise Up" is one of the album's highlights. "Friday on My Mind" is decent, certainly better than Alice Cooper guitarist Michael Bruce's version. "Lost a Part of You" is a worthy album track sequel to "I'm in You," Frampton's biggest hit.
There are some clever riffs that help make "You Kill Me" and the title tune interesting. “Breaking All the Rules” in particular, has a Sabbath-inspired fuzz guitar line from the Rolling Stones' “Bitc h”.
Steve Lukather and Jeff Porcaro provide guitar and drums as part of a more than competent band on an equally competent recording. Making a good record was not what was required of Peter Frampton at this point in time, he had to come back with something spectacular.
“Breaking All the Rules” is hampered by its creator's position in the rock hierarchy, but shouldn't be overlooked because of that. . . . . 25. Peter Frampton - The Art Of Control — RM45 . Cyrus
Genre: Rock, Hard Rock, Pop Rock
‘Grammy Award’ winner Peter Frampton is one of the most celebrated guitarists in rock history. Few were prepared for the success of 1976's live album “Frampton Comes Alive!”, which went on to become one of the biggest selling ‘live albums’ of all-time.
It topped the US album chart for 10-weeks, and is thought to have sold around 16 million copies worldwide. It also contains Peter Frampton's most recognizable song, "Baby, I Love Your Way."
In 2007, Frampton won a ‘Best Pop Instrumental Album’ Grammy for his release, “Fingerprints”.
“Art of Control” is Peter Frampton's eighth studio album. He managed to come out with a fantastic album that still sounds as good today as it did back in 1982.
For devoted Frampton fans, this album is a ‘MUST HAVE’ for your collection. This album is simply awesome in its own right. Great guitar rifts throughout and nice tight lyrics as usual. . . Track listing:
Side One
1. I Read the News 2. Sleepwalk 3. Save Me 4. Back to Eden
Side Two
1. An Eye for an Eye 2. Don't Think About Me 3. Heart in the Fire 4. Here Comes Caroline 5. Barbara's Vacation
This is ‘classic’ Peter Frampton music, with mostly up-tempo rocker's, and some of his best guitar playing done during the 70's and 80's.
Anyone who has an ear for good music will recognize songs like "I read the news", "Sleepwalk", "An eye for an eye", and "Heart in the fire", as being instant Frampton ‘classics’.
The album's best song is "Back to Eden", which I was certain at the time, would launch Frampton to the "Great Guitar Player" status that he deserved. I think you'll agree with me that it's actually one of his greatest recordings, and not one that you should pass on.
If you like Peter Frampton as much as I do, then give it a chance. I guarantee that you'll like this vinyl LP as well as anything that he's ever recorded; and that's truly saying something! .. . . . 26. Peter Gabriel — RM55 5

The songs "On the Air" and "D.I.Y." on this marvelous album are stunning slices of modern rock circa 1978, bubbling with synths, insistent rhythms and polished processed guitars.
This is a great album. In fact, quite a lot of fun to listen to and the album sounds great with it's crisp and raw production. You will be able to listen to Peter Gabriel sing in the raw, a style and personality that you have never heard him on any of his other albums, nor will anyone ever hear again. The more adventurous audiences though will love this album and "Scratch" is a highly recommended album.

We always knew Gabriel could write some amazing songs, but this albums seems to have a certain depth and darker edge compared to his previous outings.
"San Jacinto" is a wonderful story song and I never get tired of listening to it and "I Have The Touch" is one of those songs that slips under the radar at first listen, but that seems to grow within you until it becomes one of your favourites on the album.
"Shock the Monkey" is one of the better known tracks from this album and it definitely has a more upbeat feel and is the most accessible at first take.
This is the album that moved Gabriel firmly away from the sound of his previous solo albums and more toward the world influences that coloured his work from here on and it shows an artist in flux and someone who dares to follow what their heart dictates rather than what the music industry commands.
It is all the more powerful for it and makes for essential Gabriel listening.

. 30. David Bowie - Let's Dance — RM45 . Cyrus
Genre: Post-disco, Dance, Rock
“Let's Dance” is an album by David Bowie, released in 1983. It is a post-disco album with co-production by Chic's Nile Rodgers. The title track of the album became one of Bowie's biggest hit singles, reaching No.1 in the UK, the US and various other countries.
Further singles included "Modern Love" and "China Girl", which both reached No.2 in the UK.
The beats are beautifully constructed, and it is a very pleasing meeting of rock and dance aesthetics.
At the dawn of the '80s, Bowie was still at the height of his powers, yet following his blockbuster dance-pop album “Let's Dance” in 1983, he slowly sank into mediocrity before salvaging his career in the early '90s.
Even when he was out of fashion in the '80s and '90s, it was clear that Bowie was one of the most influential musicians in rock, for better and for worse. Each one of his phases in the '70s sparked a number of subgenres, including punk, new wave, goth rock, the new romantics, and electronica. Few rockers ever had such lasting impact. . Tracklist:

. 33. Neil Young - Harvest — RM75 . Cyrus
Genre: Rock Style: Country rock, Folk rock
“Harvest” is the 4th. studio album by ‘legendary’ Canadian composer and performer ‘Neil Young’, released in 1972. It featured the ‘London Symphony Orchestra’ on two tracks, while noted guests David Crosby, Graham Nash, Linda Ronstadt, Stephen Stills, and James Taylor contributed vocals.
It topped the Billboard 200 album chart for 2-weeks, and spawned two hit singles… "Old Man" which peaked at No.31 on the Billboard Hot 100, and "Heart of Gold" which peaked at No.1.
The smash "Heart of Gold" with steel guitars and ‘Linda Ronstadt’'s backup vocals, is by far Young's most commercial-sounding song.
It was the “best-selling” album of 1972. . Tracklist: All written by Neil Young.

Recent evaluations of the album:
In 1998, Q magazine readers voted “Harvest” the 64th. greatest album of all time.
In 1996, 2000 and 2005, Chart polled readers to determine the 50 greatest Canadian albums of all time — “Harvest” placed second in all three polls.
In 2003, Rolling Stone named “Harvest” the 78th greatest album of all time.
In 2007, “Harvest” was named the No.1 Canadian Album of All Time by Bob Mersereau in his book ‘The Top 100 Canadian Albums’. . Neil Young's body of work ranks 2nd. only to ‘Bob Dylan’ in terms of depth, and he was able to sustain his critical reputation, as well as record sales, for a longer period of time than Dylan, partially because of his willfully perverse work ethic. From the beginning of his solo career in the late '60s through to the 21st century, he never stopped writing, recording, and performing.

33A. Neil Young & Crazy Horse - Re-ac-tor — RM65 . . Genre: Hard rock, new wave
Few artists can match ‘Neil Young’ in musical artistry, creative versatility, and artistic/personal intergrity - Dylan, Lennon, Hendrix, Stipe, Young - the list does not go much beyond that.
We are dealing with a ‘legendary’ composer and performer, one who defies categorization while still remaining relevant to so many categorized styles. Not many artists can lay claim to that.
In 1981, Neil Young & Crazy Horse released the heavy rock album “Re-ac-tor”.
“Re-ac-tor” is the eleventh studio album by Canadian musician Neil Young, and his third with ‘Crazy Horse’. The album married the electric guitar crunch of the late '70s ‘Crazy Horse’ sound with early '80s ‘new wave’ rhythms. . Track listing: All songs written by Neil Young.
Side one
1."Opera Star" 2."Surfer Joe and Moe the Sleaze" 3."T-Bone" 4."Get Back on It"
Side two
1."Southern Pacific" 2."Motor City" 3."Rapid Transit" 4."Shots" . “HeavyHeavyHeavyHeavyHeavy…”
. This is Neil's ‘heaviest’ record ever.
This is a very raw and angry record with Neil barely controlling his playing and singing. As a result, this is a very ‘alive’ record.
And it rocks - ragged and sloppily, it rocks. Couldn't do less, what with ‘Crazy Horse’.
Neil's always best with ‘Crazy Horse’.
This is a ‘classic’. Great to hear it again. "Shots" might be the hardest rocking song he's ever made!
It's a blast: funny, bitter, angry, loopy and nearly out of control. Loud, fuzzy Neil at his most elemental and off the wall. Enjoy your ‘Neil’ as he intended his music to be heard.
All round “Re-ac-tor” is an exceptional release. What I call ought to have music. Two thumbs up and is most definitely a worthy addition to any “Rock” collection. Actually an exceptional Rock vinyl LP.
You like rock and roll, you like heavy guitar, no questions asked, buy it! ... Think I'll put it on now. . . . . . 34. George Benson - The George Benson Collection — RM45 . . Cyrus

…
A rock solid overview of Daltrey's solo work. This album ably demonstrates Daltrey's wide ranging vocal style.
The sheer power of "Free Me" will get ‘The Who’ faithful to shout along and ballads like "Without Your Love" and "Say It Ain't So, Joe" will moisten the eyes of the most cynical critics.
Excellent songs that never received their due in an age of ‘Culture Club’-pop music. ‘Roger Daltrey’ has always been one of the defining vocalists in rock. . . . . . .. 38. Howard Jones - Dream Into Action — RM40 . .
Genre: Rock/Pop, New wave, Synthpop . According to the Guinness Book of British Hit Singles & Albums, "Jones is an accomplished singer-songwriter who was a regular chart visitor in the mid 1980s with his brand of synthpop."
‘Allmusic’ journalist wrote, "Jones was one of the defining figures of mid 1980s synthpop. His music merged the technology intensive sound of new wave with the cheery optimism of hippies and late 1960s pop. Jones racked up a string of hits in the mid and late 1980s, before he retreated into being a cult figure in the 1990s."
“Dream into Action” is the 2nd. album by British pop musician ‘Howard Jones’. Released in 1985 and reached No.2 in the UK Album Charts. The album went ‘Gold’ and ‘Platinum’ in many countries including the US and UK.
“Dream into Action” captured the new wave synth momentum of the early 80's. It is Howard Jones's best album. . TRACKLIST: All songs written by Howard Jones

1."Automaton" 2."Is There a Difference?" 3."Elegy" 4."Specialty" 5."Why look for the key" 6."Hunger for the Flesh" . The album contained the hit singles "Things Can Only Get Better" (UK No. 6, US No. 5), "Look Mama" (UK No. 10), "Life in One Day" (UK No. 14, US No.19), "Like to Get to Know You Well" (UK No. 4) and the original version of his biggest American hit, "No One Is to Blame" (UK No. 16, US No. 4).
There are so many other great songs on this album, that I can't believe that one man created such a wonderfully creative work.
"Like To Get To Know You Well", "Bounce Right Back" and "Is There A Difference?" all are fun tracks. Two of my favorites are "Speciality" and "Hunger For The Flesh". The first for it's catchy melodies, and the latter for it's dark and brooding atmosphere. "Assault & Battery" and "Look Mama" are also strong tracks. This was Howard Jones at his peak. . . . . ..

. 40. Glen Campbell- Southern Nights — RM40 . .

He is best known for a series of hits in the 1960s and 1970s, as well as for hosting a variety show called The Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour on CBS television. . During his 50 years in show business, Campbell has released more than 70 albums. He has sold 45 million records and racked up 12 RIAA Gold albums, 4 Platinum albums and 1 Double-Platinum album. . Of his 74 trips up the country charts, 27 landed in the Top 10. Campbell's hits include John Hartford's "Gentle on My Mind", Jimmy Webb's "By the Time I Get to Phoenix", "Wichita Lineman" and "Galveston", Larry Weiss's "Rhinestone Cowboy" and Allen Toussaint's "Southern Nights". . Campbell made history by winning 4 Grammys in both country and pop categories in 1967. For "Gentle on My Mind" he received two awards in country & western, "By the Time I Get to Phoenix" did the same in pop. He owns trophies for Male Vocalist of the Year from both the Country Music Association (CMA) and the Academy of Country Music (ACM), and took the CMA's top honor as 1968 Entertainer of the Year. . In 1969 Campbell was hand picked by actor John Wayne to play alongside him in the film True Grit, which gave Campbell a Golden Globe nomination for Most Promising Newcomer. Campbell sang the title song which was nominated for an Academy Award. . In 2005, Campbell was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. . Southern Nights is the 32nd. album by American singer/guitarist Glen Campbell, released in 1977. One of Glen Campbell's most important & biggest selling 70s albums, 'Southern Nights' (1977). Along with Rhinestone Cowboy, Southern Nights is the most essential Glen Campbell albums of the seventies. . "Southern Nights" continues to be the favorite Glen Campbell song. It has a very addictive beat and tune to it. However, there are other good songs here, namely "Sunflower" and "Early Morning Song". "Early Morning Song" is, without a doubt, Glen Campbell's finest song that never made it onto the charts. Outstanding vocal performance that compares with his classic "By the Time I Get to Phoenix". . Southern Nights has been Glen Campbell's last No. 1 to date. And not only was it No. 1 on the country charts, but on the Pop and Adult Contemporary Charts as well. Glen Campbell has never been a one trick pony. Most people try to paint him as solely as country artist. Listen to this album and you will think otherwise.
This album is honestly, the most non country album ever put out by Glen prior to "Meet Glen Campbell" in 2008 and "Ghost on the Canvas" in 2011. Sure, it has a small country flavor, but listening to Glen's beautiful rendition of the Brian Wilson/Tony Asher classic "God Only Knows" will show you just how one of a kind and talented that Mr. Campbell is.
All in all, this is simply put, a great late 70's smooth music experience. Highly Recommended. A+ . Track listing: . Side 1 "Southern Nights" "This Is Sarah's Song" "For Cryin' Out Loud" "God Only Knows" "Sunflower"

In addition, the studio version of "Thank God I'm a Country Boy" appears on this album. . This album is one of the best albums of the 70's period. This is the album that made John Denver world famous, and although more mainstream than "Poems" or any of the preceding albums, it contains not a single bad track. The imagery is strictly US countryside, but it gained an international appeal. No other album (except maybe "An Evening with" which contained the same material) ever sounded like this again. Not a pinnacle of John Denver 's works but the best known and a great one to listen to. "Sweet Surrender" was never bettered. . This album was released when John Denver was at the apex of his popularity, and the songs on this album served to propel him firmly into the stratosphere. From the comical "Thank God I'm A Country Boy" to the incredible smash hit "Annie's Song", John Denver showcases his incredible talents here. . This album is John Denver's crowning achievement, and one of the best albums I've ever heard from anyone. . Back Home Again produced one of the most sublimely raw and unplugged albums of all time! Rockwell changed his name because he believed he "rocked well." . Rockwell is the son of Motown founder and CEO Berry Gordy and Margaret Norton. Rockwell's paternal half-sister is actress Rhonda Ross Kendrick, the eldest child of Diana Ross. . In 1984, Rockwell released his biggest hit single, "Somebody's Watching Me", featuring childhood friends Michael Jackson on guest vocals (notably in the chorus lyrics), and Jermaine Jackson singing back-up. "Somebody's Watching Me" became a Top 10 pop hit in both the US and UK, and a No.1 R&B hit. . Rockwell's first album was really good. It had a funk driven feel to it on most tracks. . Title track "Somebody's watching me" is a Funk/Pop ditty with a dramatic narration about paranoia and feeling like one is living in "The twilight zone". Incredibly catchy, it was a Top 5 hit in the US (No. 2) and UK, and featured prominent backing vocals from his famous in-law, Michael Jackson. . "Obscene phone caller" is more of the same, bouncier and more rock tinged, with a narration about a nutty phone caller who just breathes heavily down the phone when it's picked up. "Obscene Phone Caller" was a good follow up to "Somebody's Watching Me". Anybody that can get Michael Jackson to sing on your song is a winner in my book as that song is still funky 2 decades later! It sounded very close to Michael's own hit "Billie Jean" in terms of the rhythm and beats. . Other standouts are a synth heavy remake of ex-Beatles George Harrison's "Taxman", and the punk feel of "Runaway" and "Wasting away" (with a squealing guitar solo). The album's emotional centerpiece though is its lone ballad; "Knife". Sounding like a seventies cinematic classic (very Elton John-ish or Jason Mraz-like), it is a tender piano ballad about heartache. The lyrics "When I pretend/wear a smile to fool my dearest friends/I wonder if they know/It's just a show" are so intense and I feel a strong connection to them. He gives such a heartfelt and emotive vocal performance, showing he can do more than just narrate as he did on his lone big hit. . This is a totally an awesome LP! For highlights this has the very well known "Somebody's Watching Me", another hit "Obscene Phone Caller", & the awesome remake of George Harrison's "Taxman"... such a fun album, a perfect example of 80s Pop. . Excellent debut album and incidentally, released the same year as Prince's "Purple Rain", and the year after Michael Jackson's "Thriller", two of the best selling albums of all time. Nonetheless, "Somebody's Watching Me" held it's own, and is still a great song and album to this day. . . . . .. 45. Steve Forbert - Jackrabbit Slim — RM40 . .
Steve Forbert – Jackrabbit Slim. Label: Nemperor Records – JZ 36191 Country: US Released: 1979 Genre: Blues, Folk, World, & Country, Rock . . Steve Forbert is an American pop music singer-songwriter. He is best known for his song "Romeo's Tune", which reached No. 11 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1980. . Critics hailed him at the time as the "new Bob Dylan", given a similar vocal timbre and thoughtful songwriting. The front cover of his second album, Jackrabbit Slim, encourages such comparisons with its simplicity: a black-and-white photo of Forbert playing a well-worn Martin acoustic guitar with a capo on it, his shirt tinted green. The record was recorded in Nashville, Tennessee and produced by John Simon. . Even though the sleeve of the album Jackrabbit Slim (1979) states that "Romeo's Tune" is "dedicated to the memory of Florence Ballard", the song is not really about the Supremes singer who died in 1976. The song was actually written about a girl from Forbert's home town of Meridian, Mississippi, but was dedicated to Ballard because, as Forbert explains, "That seemed like such bad news to me and such sad news. She wasn't really taken care of by the music business, which is not a new story." Jackrabbit Slim is the 2nd. album that Steve released. It was recorded "live" in the studio (no overdubs). As a result, the recordings have a great late night feel. This is his best album. . Tracklist: | A1 | | Romeo's Tune | | | | A2 | | The Sweet Love That You Give | | | | A3 | | I'm In Love With You | | | | A4 | | Say Goodbye To Little Jo | | | | A5 | | Wait | | | | B1 | | Make It All So Real | | | | B2 | | Baby | | | | B3 | | Complications | | | | B4 | | Sadly Sorta Like A Soap Opera | | | | B5 | | January 23-30, 1978 |
. This recording contains Forbert's only commercially successful single, the catchy and melodic "Romeo's Tune", but there is so much more here. Nevertheless "Romeo's Tune" was a huge hit and remains a great song. "Sweet Love that you Give", "Wait, and I'm in Love With You" are all classic Steve Forbert tunes as well. "The Sweet Love That You Give" is a great foot stomper. "Make It All So Real" is a wonderful ballad. Steve has always had the ability to rock, to entertain, to mix optimism with a dose of reality. He handles both ends of the spectrum, and everything in between, equally well. He takes a back seat to no one as an accomplished lyricist. The highlight of this recording, is the beautiful "Wait". It is virtually impossible to listen to this song without being reminded of every time you've ever felt as though the world had just fallen on you. The song's prayerful chorus - "God help the lost and the lonely, God help the poor" moves me every time I hear it. Jackrabbit Slim is best known for the hit "Romeo's Tune", but if that's all you're hearing, you're missing out on a lot of good stuff. This LP is nevertheless still a great roots-rock record, blending such influences as Marshall Tucker, the Outlaws and Jackson Browne, and adding piano-organ interplay reminiscent of the Band, creating a unique country-folk-rock sound that influenced many alt-country-rock artists of the late 90s. This is a LP you shouldn't pass up. If you don't have any Forbert music in your collection, you're missing an opportunity to witness the talents of a gifted artist. His songs are beautiful, witty and funny.... and his musicianship is wonderful ! . . . .. 46. Steve Perry (ex-Journey) - Street Talk — RM55 . . Label: Geffen Records 24053 Country: Canada Released: 1984 Genre: Rock Style: Pop-rock. ‘Tom Robinson’ is an English singer-songwriter, bassist and radio presenter, better known for the hits "Glad To Be Gay", "2-4-6-8 Motorway" and "Don't Take No for an Answer", with his Tom Robinson Band. He later peaked at No. 6 in the UK Singles Chart with his solo single "War Baby". . Inspired by an early Sex Pistols gig, Robinson founded the more political Tom Robinson Band. The following year the group released the single "2-4-6-8 Motorway", which peaked at No. 5 in the UK Singles Chart for two weeks. . In 1980, Robinson co-wrote several songs with Elton John, including his minor hit "Sartorial Eloquence (Don't Ya Wanna Play This Game No More?)" which peaked at No. 39 in the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. . His “Hope and Glory” 1984 album, later reissued as “War Baby: Hope and Glory” peaked at No. 21 in the UK Albums Chart. . Robinson penned the song "War Baby" about divisions between East and West Germany. "War Baby" peaked at No. 6 in the UK Singles Chart and at No. 1 in the UK Indie Chart for 3-weeks. . It is Robinson's finest solo work, containing many strong pop-rock songs. The arrangements are solid, and Robinson's voice has never sounded more tough-but-tender. . TRACKLIST: . A1 Murder At The End Of Day A2 Prison A3 Ricky Don't Lose That Number A4 Old Friend A5 Looking For A Bonfire B1 War Baby B2 Atmospherics: Listen To The Radio B3 Cabin Boy B4 Blond & Blue B5 Hope & Glory . There's the glorious "War Baby" - the rest of this album reflects his maturity as a songwriter. Lyrically, he has never been better - from the opening of "War Baby"… “Only the very young or the very beautiful can be so aloof, hanging out with the boys all swagger and poise.” . "Atmospherics" and "Cabin Boy" both powerful and wrenching in their way. . "Cabin Boy" is a hot, sexy sailor fantasy… without a single word that could be construed as "obscene," Robinson managed to craft as raunchy a song as I've ever heard, and then he threw in a seething piano solo for good measure, but his lyrics on "Old Friend" are his most sublime… . “Loving you has never been easy” “And I never thought I'd get this far” “But at last I can start to see you” “And to know you as you really are” “I'm a bit of a cynic and too long in the tooth” “To try and overstate the case” “And I don't want to embarrass us both tonight” “By saying this to your face” . “But if I should dream, it'd be of you…” s .

50. John Waite - Ignition — RM45 . . Genre: Rock, Pop-Rock ‘John Waite’ is an English rock singer and musician. He was lead vocalist for ‘The Babys’ and ‘Bad English’. As a solo artist, he scored several international hits, including 1984's "Missing You", a No.1 hit on the US Billboard Hot 100 and Top 10 hit on the UK Singles Chart. As one of the world's greatest rock vocalist ‘John Waite’ has enjoyed formidably staying power, chart-topping records and sold-out concerts around the world. “Ignition” is the debut solo disc from rock singer-songwriter ‘John Waite’ after the breakup of ‘The Babys’. Waite essentially picked up right where ‘The Babys’ left off, issuing an album of upbeat, made for radio pop/rock/AOR (Album Oriented Rock) with a slight new wave vibe. It was released on Chrysalis in May 1982, and produced by ‘Neil Geraldo’ (producer/guitarist for ‘Pat Benatar’, who was on the same label). A few famous musicians guested on the album as well. Singer ‘Patty Smyth’ (then in the band ‘Scandal’) handled vocal backing, and drummer ‘Frankie LaRocka’ (also from ‘Scandal’) and bassist ‘Don Nossov’ (who also played with ‘Benatar’) guest here. His first solo album, “Ignition”, boasted the MTV/rock radio staple "Change." No doubt "Change" is a classic hits of the 80s. It's a perfectly good album, and a good representative of the early 80's pop/rock scene. I honestly cannot find a song on here that I do not enjoy. This is a perfect collection of songs. . Track Listing: 1. "White Heat" 2. "Change" 3. "Mr. Wonderful" 4. "Going To The Top" 5. "Desperate Love" 6. "Temptation" 7. "Be My Baby Tonight" 8. "Make It Happen" 9. "Still In Love With You" 10. "Wild Life" . CHARTS (Album): 1982 - “Ignition” - Peak chart position - US No.68 (Singles) 1982 - "Change" - Peak chart position on US Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks No.16 … "Change" is simply a perfect song. Hear it yourself; you'll now know what to compare music to. Energy, urgency, power, control, quality, production to compliment your material. Three-way-tie with "Mr. Wonderful" & "I'm Still in Love" for the best song on the LP. Definitely the radio star. "Mr. Wonderful" was John's choice for the first single, and it is so obviously a superior tune. Perfect tune, perfect delivery. "Desperate Love" a great song, with almost frantic urgency, almost a trademark stamp of 80's rock, at least the more-memorable stuff. Very memorable and enjoyable. "Temptation" is a standout of this release. Intricate musically and quite original. Great lyrics, great message for all lovers to adhere to. "Be My Baby Tonight" great riffs, great vibe, very enjoyable rocker. "I'm Still in Love", Wow! now that I re-listen to this, this is one of John's better songs throughout his career. GREAT lyrics, great vibe, perfect production, another song which is custom-made for John's forte, which is introspective review, pleading of intent and spiritual comfort. "Wild Life" John's first SOLO example of the basic rock which he feels comfortable with. A good choice as a closer. "Change", "Mr. Wonderful", "Temptation", "I'm Still In Love", "Be My Baby Tonight"; all undeniable reasons to OWN this LP. This is a perfect vinyl LP and a great showcase for John Waite's talents. It includes 10 quality songs which stand out above so much junk of so many decades. Appreciate the quality. Hearing several of the songs on “Ignition” brought a smile to my face and had me singing along. ‘John Waite’ now prefers to balance his life between singing on stage and composing and recording honest, heartfelt solo albums. He has written and recorded several songs for feature films. For kicks (and perhaps honor, as a diehard ‘Beatles’ fan), he even enjoyed a brief stint a few years ago on a ‘Ringo Starr’ concert tour. Not one to be deterred by the changing face of the music industry, ‘John Waite’ is content in simply being true to himself and his art. . .

Corey Hart – Boy In The Box . Label: EMI America – ST-17161 Country: US Released: 1985 Genre: Electronic, Rock Style: Pop Rock, Synth-pop
“Boy in the Box” is the 2nd. album by ‘Corey Hart’, released in 1985.
It generated 4 charted singles. The song "Never Surrender" won the Canadian ‘Juno Award’ in 1985 for "Single of the Year" and reached No.3 on the U.S. Hot 100 (No.1 for one week, sales only.) . Track listing:
1. "Boy in the Box" 2. "Komrade Kiev" 3. "Never Surrender" 4. "Sunny Place - Shady People" 5. "Eurasian Eyes" 6. "Everything in My Heart" 7. "Silent Talking" 8. "Waiting for You" 9. "Water from the Moon" . Most of them are rock-influenced with a heavy use of synths and fairlights machines, and the result will blow you away!
As well as "Never Surrender", the other BIG ballad is "Eurasian Eyes", pure poetry…
If you search for rock tracks, then "Boy in the Box" and "Silent Talking" are your best bets, supported by wild-driven vocals of Corey. "Boy In The Box" is one of the most fantastic and enjoyable pop albums ever made. It is a perfect blend of guitar meeting synthesisers with fantastic results.
Corey screams out the orders to shoot "Komrade Kiev" on this track about the stupidity of the cold war. The synths, drums and guitar go wild on this track that should have been a single.
My favourite non-single track off the LP is the deliciously bouncy, pop tune "Waiting for You".
Other tracks are skillfully written with brilliant lyrics and a musical mind trip that takes you on a journey. This album is a must for any pop music loving 80s fan.

Eddy Grant – Going For Broke y Genre: Reggae, Rock Style: Pop Rock, Reggae-Pop Label: ICE – PRT 25790, Portrait – FR 39261 Released: 1984 Country: Netherlands
“Going for Broke” is a 1984 album by musician and Reggae super-star, ‘Eddy Grant’. Following the major success of the previous “Killer On The Rampage”, this album takes a similar approach. It featured the U.S. hit "Romancing the Stone", as well as the singles "Till I Can't Take Love No More" and "Boys in the Street". . “Going for Broke” is a fantastic Caribbean mellow classic, adding a distinctly mid-80's favour to the album, without taking away from it's fundamental reggae.
This was Eddy's best project and included the very popular hit "Romancing The Stone" which made it onto the dance music, rock, R&B and reggae charts simultaneously.
This was also his most prolific project with songs like "Ire Harry", "Rock You Good" and "Come On Let Me Love You" serving as fine examples of Eddy's eclectic musicianship and artistry. . “Going for Broke” is a good album, a very good one ideed.
Eddy Grant (born Edmond Montague Grant, 5 March 1948) is a musician, born in Plaisance, Guyana. . When he was still a young boy, his parents emigrated to London, UK, where he settled. He had his first No.1 hit in 1968, when he was the lead guitarist and main songwriter of the group ‘The Equals’, with his self-penned song "Baby Come Back". The tune also later topped the “UK Singles Chart” again when covered by ‘Pato Banton’.
In 1982, his solo recording of "I Don't Wanna Dance" spent 3-weeks at No.1 in the UK Singles Chart. He scored a Top Ten album in the same year, with “Killer on the Rampage”. . His song "Electric Avenue" was both a UK and US No.2 in 1983, selling over a million copies. Plus, a later remix of the song was a UK Top Ten hit again in 2001.
Grant set up his own recording company, ‘Ice Records’. He has also produced for the likes of Sting, Mick Jagger and Elvis Costello. . Tracklist:

1."Disco Apocalypse" 2."Hold Out" 3."That Girl Could Sing" 4."Boulevard" 5."Of Missing Persons" 6."Call It a Loan" 7."Hold On Hold Out" . . This is a terrific concept album. All of the songs here are good, but some are absolutely wonderful, especially like "That Girl Could Sing", "On The Boulevard", and "Call It A Loan". As always, Browne's use of lyrics is so masterful that one reels at the power of description and expression he brings to bear on the subject of love. A high recommendation for this album for any and all Jackson Browne fans. Enjoy!

. . . 56. Elton John - Jump Up! — RM45 . Cyrus
Genre: Pop, piano rock Label: Geffen Records Country: U.S.A.
“Jump Up!” is the 16th. studio album by British singer/songwriter ‘Elton John’, released on Geffen Records in the US in 1982. It was a perfectly well executed album that deserves to be heard.
It features such moving songs as "Empty Garden", the wonderful tribute to John Lennon.
This is one of the first few LPs that showcases Elton singing in a deeper voice, as can be heard in songs such "Blue Eyes", "Princess", "Ball & Chain", and "Spiteful Child". "Legal Boys" was written by Elton and Tim Rice, who would write lyrics for songs for The Lion King 12 years later.
This is the last studio album in which ‘James Newton-Howard’ plays keyboards.
“Jump Up!” is a great sounding album with a variety of great songs. "Spiteful Child" and "I am your Robot" are punkish rockers; "Princess" and "Empty Garden" are ‘classic’ Elton ballads; "Blue Eyes" is a Frank Sinatra-esque tune; "Dear John" is a bouncy rocker; "Where have all the good times gone?" is a great philly-soul sounding song.
There aren't any bad songs here and the album has a bouyant, energetic and polished feel to it.
It is one Elton's best of the 1980s. . . Track listing:
Side one
1."Dear John" 2."Spiteful Child" 3."Ball and Chain" 4."Legal Boys" 5."I Am Your Robot" 6."Blue Eyes"
Side two
1."Empty Garden 2."Princess" 3."Where Have All the Good Times Gone" 4."All Quiet on the Western Front"
Elton made it clear he was going to be a force to be reckon with on “Jump Up!”. Yielding two top 15 singles, "Blue Eyes" and the John Lennon tribute "Empty Garden".
“Jump Up!” is Elton's most consistent effort, contains some outstanding songs. Elton sings convincingly and with a self-assurance that resembles his best known work. “Jump Up!” is one of Elton's best album from the 1980s.
Without question “Jump Up!” is an essential Elton John album that should be acquired by both diehard fans and others interested in his music.
Buy this Album, you'll be glad you did. ..
. . . . 57. Al Jarreau - Jarreau — RM55 .
Cyrus Genre: Jazz, Pop, Soul, Funk . The only vocalist in history to net ‘Grammy Awards’ in three different categories (jazz, pop, and R&B, respectively), Alwin "Al" Lopez Jarreau is a 7-time Grammy Award winning jazz singer.
. . . . In 1975, ‘Jarreau’ was working with pianist Tom Canning when he was spotted by Warner Bros. Records and soon thereafter released his critically acclaimed debut album, “We Got By”, which catapulted him to international fame and garnered him a ‘German Grammy Award’. A second German Grammy would follow with the release of his second album, “Glow”.
One of Jarreau's most commercially successful albums is “Breakin' Away” (1981), which includes the hit song "We're In This Love Together." . He has toured and performed with numerous musicians, including Joe Sample, Kathleen Battle, Miles Davis, David Sanborn, Rick Braun, and George Benson. On March 6, 2001, he received a star on the “Hollywood Walk of Fame”.
. 1983: His 6th. album, “Jarreau” (Warner Bros. Records) - charted US No.13, R&B No.4, Jazz ‘No.1’, UK No.39.

1. Mornin' 2. Boogie Down 3. I Will Be Here for You 4. Save Me Listen 5. Step by Step 6. Black and Blues 7. Trouble in Paradise 8. Not Like This 9. Love Is Waiting
. . If you only own one ‘Al’ album, then this should probably be it. “Breakin' Away” is undeniably superb too, but THIS “Jarreau” album simply has no low points at all.
. There cannot be a finer way to kick off an album than with "Mornin'" - play it before you go to work every morning and your day will be that much better - it's just so uplifting. . From there, "Step by Step" and "Save Me" are just typical brilliant Jarreau - the tempos vary but Al's voice just dances across the top of the melody and weaves vocal patterns that have to be heard to be believed. . This truly is the album where Jay Graydon's production really complements Al's voice to the full - there are no deep bass or drum sounds, just shallower percussion and light electric pianos to allow Al's voice to create the depth itself.
"Black and Blues" and "Trouble in Paradise" are the sort of singalong catchy stuff that win Al so many R'n'B awards, but the outstanding moment for me is "Not Like This" - barely more than 2 minutes long, the emotional depths Al reaches in this song are ‘breathtaking’.
Really, this album is SPECIAL ! ..

During the 1970s, Bob James played a major role in establishing the ‘smooth jazz’ genre. "Angela", the instrumental theme from the sitcom ‘Taxi’, is probably Bob James' most well-known work to date. He is also well-known for the smooth jazz classics "Nautilus" and "Westchester Lady". . For their first joint album release, “One on One”, Earl Klugh and Bob James received a ‘Grammy award’ for “Best Pop Instrumental Performance” of 1981. . "Sheperd's Song" (from France's Haute-Auvergne region) gets the smooth treatment with Grover Washington Jr. playing both sax and tin whistle. . The saxophonist is featured once again on the funky "Brighton By The Sea". The Billy Joel rhythm section steps in for "Thoroughbred", the album's most adventurous number. . The album closes quietly with a unique treatment of Peaches & Herb's hit "Reunited". The refrain is left out, giving Bob, bassist Gary King, and Grover Washington, Jr. the opportunity for creative soloing. . . . . . . . 60. Paul Mazzolini "Gazebo" - Gazebo — RM40

As a rather cosmopolitan teenager Mazzolini began a career in a variety of jazz, rock and punk bands before meeting Rome based producer Paul Micioni. The first release, “Masterpiece”, was a minor hit in 1982.
His footnote in charts history is his 1983 release "I like Chopin", popular opinion notwithstanding, the piano motif herein is not a Chopin composition. The release sold 8 millions copies worldwide and reached No.1 of Italian charts along with 15 other countries.

The band accepted and promptly began working on the album… making extensive use of synthesisers.
“Flash Gordon” was issued as an official ‘Queen’ release rather than a motion picture soundtrack, and has proven to be one of rock's better motion picture soundtracks over the years.
The majority of the music is instrumental, with dialogue from the movie in place of Freddie Mercury's singing (only two tracks contain lyrics), but the songwriting is still unmistakably ‘Queen’.
Highlights abound, such as "Football Fight", "Vultan's Theme (Attack of the Hawkmen)", "The Wedding March" and the heavy metal roar of "Battle Theme". But it was the two more conventional songs that were the album's two best tracks - the anthemic U.K. Top Ten hit "Flash's Theme" and the woefully underrated rocker "The Hero."
The album contains mostly the score performed by ‘Queen’, and only two short fragments of Howard Blake's orchestral score (appearing in "The Kiss" and "The Hero"). . . . . . .

Gentle on My Mind Flowers in the Wall Mickey's Tune Jackson Elusive Butterfly Crackety Jacks By Time Get to Phoenix I'll Just Walk Away Don't Touch Me All the Time Make the World Go Away Green Grass of Home
When Boots Randolph was "tootin' his horn", he did more than just play the saxophone. More than just pop out music notes. And that's why his saxophone sounded like it could sing...could talk...could almost speak to deaf ears!
His ability was awesome. His versatile style still has no equal. He brought audiences to their feet ever since the early sixties, when his signature song - "Yakety Sax" - first hit the airwaves. It took off like gangbusters and turned the young musician into a celebrity.
Boots Randolph was the first to ever play sax on recordings with Elvis, and the only one to ever play solo with him, in addition to recording on the soundtracks for eight of his movies.
His unique style of sax, coupled with tremendous popularity on Music City sessions in the 60s, made Randolph a major player in creating the now-famous "Nashville Sound".
Without question, it was Randolph's particular blend of Dixieland jazz....along with some Swingin' honky-tonk...which helped Nashville music makers turn hillbilly records into a hybrid sound that literally transformed Nashville into the Country Music Capitol of the World!
Over the years, this legendary musician had written chapter after chapter of music history...forever etched in sound... entertaining audiences with the same enthusiasm he had since day one. It was in his blood!
Boots was his name and SAX was his game! His horn was a “Selmer Super 80 Series II” with a “Bobby Dukoff D-9” mouthpiece, and a “No.3 Rico reed”.. .

Genre: Jazz Label: Mercury Record Corporation MG-36097 Released: 1960 (1960's Jazz record)
‘BILL HARRIS’… a master guitar player.
“Great Guitar Sounds” was released around 1960.
After being discharged from the army in the mid-'40s, masterful Bill Harris (1925–1988) began studying guitar in Washington, D.C., becoming fairly good with both ‘jazz’ and ‘classical’ pieces. Harris was encouraged particularly in the ‘classics’ by high-up staff at the Columbia School of Music, yet seems to have picked the "Clovers" due to a perceived scent of economic security. The choice, interestingly enough, still wound up leading to expanded musical horizons when fellow rhythm & blues and session guitarist ‘Mickey Baker’ eavesdropped on a Harris dressing-room practice session and began pulling strings for what would be a series of releases under Harris' own name, such as the 1960 “Great Guitar Sounds”.
During his career Harris released only a handful of records, first for Mercury, later for Jazz Guitar – his own label – and for the french imprint Black & Blue (“Down in the Alley” and “Rhythm”). .
BILL HARRIS [Guitar], GREAT GUITAR SOUNDS
On the cover:
BILL HARRIS IS A GUITAR PLAYER'S GUITARIST. HIS BACKGROUND ON THE INSTRUMENT SHOWS EXTENSIVE STUDY IN THE BEST SCHOOLS AND UNDER THE BEST TUTORS. HOWEVER, HARRIS' REAL BACKGROUND IS PLAYING THE INSTRUMENT. HE HAS TOURED IN CONCERTS AND AS GUITARIST FOR ROCK 'N' ROLL GROUPS. EVERYTHING, REGARDLESS OF STYLE, HAS ADDED TO THE HARRIS TOUCH. . . * “Moon River” is a song composed by ‘Johnny Mercer’ (lyrics) and ‘Henry Mancini’ (music) in 1961, for whom it won that year's ‘Academy Award’ for “Best Original Song”.
It was originally sung in the movie “Breakfast at Tiffany's” by Audrey Hepburn, although it has been covered by many other artists. The song also won the 1962 ‘Grammy Award’ for “Record of the Year”.
It became the ‘theme song’ for Andy Williams, who first recorded it in 1961 and performed it at the ‘Academy Awards’ ceremonies in 1962.
The success of the song was responsible for re-launching ‘Mercer’'s career as a songwriter, which had stalled in the mid-1950s because ‘rock and roll’ replaced ‘jazz’ standards as the popular music of the time.
An inlet near Savannah, Georgia, Johnny Mercer's hometown, was named “Moon River” in honor of him and this song.
The ‘popularity’ of the song is such that it has been used as a test sample in a study on people's memories of popular songs. . . . . . . . 73. Billy Vaughn and his orchestra - Melodies In Gold — RM35 . .

‘Billy Vaughn’ (1919–1991) was an American singer, multi-instrumentalist, orchestra leader, and A&R man for Dot Records.
He was among the most successful instrumental artists of the 1950s, a man who never heard a song he didn't cover.
Like ‘Les Baxter’, Vaughn started as a vocalist, leading a group called the ‘Hilltoppers’, and had a string of hits throughout the 1950s. The most famous of these was a cover of Terry Gilkyson's "Marianne" in 1957.
In the mid 1950s, Vaughn became musical director of ‘Dot Records’, which specialized in cover records. He led the syrupy orchestra behind such white-bread covers of original black R&B hits as the Fontane Sister's "Hearts of Stone" (first done by the ‘Charms’) and Gale Storm's "I Hear You Knocking".
Between 1954 and 1968, Vaughn recorded over 25 albums of covers instrumentals for Dot. Several of his recordings outsold the originals, among them "The Shifting, Whispering Sands" (first done by Rusty Draper) and "Melody of Love" (a cover of a French hit "Melodie d'Amour").
The Billy Vaughn Orchestra began touring in 1965 with numerous sell-out tours throughout Japan, Brazil and Korea.

Released: 1986 Label: Finlandia Records Country: Finland Genre: Classical
‘Finlandia Sinfonietta’ was founded in 1975 and the players are members of the ‘Helsinki Phiharmonic Orchestra’.
‘Finlandia Sinfonietta’ regularly gives concerts in Helsinki and makes tours both to other parts of Finland and abroad. The orchestra has no regular conductor but has been conducted by well-known Finnish and foreign conductors.
The ‘Helsinki Phiharmonic Orchestra’ has played nearly all the first performance of “Sibelius' orchestral works”.
‘Jean Sibelius’ (1865–1957) was a Finnish composer whose music played an important role in the formation of the Finnish national identity. His mastery of the orchestra has been described as "prodigious."
The core of Sibelius's oeuvre is his set of “seven symphonies”. Like Beethoven, Sibelius used each successive work to further develop his own personal compositional style. His works continue to be performed frequently in the concert hall and are often recorded.
‘Pekka Helasvuo’ has been guest conductor of all the major symphony orchestras in Finland and has been both player and conductor of the ‘Finlandia Sinfonietta’ since it was founded in 1975.

This collection of themes invites you to big-screen spine chillers by which movie directors have literally kept millions on the edge of their seats.
Alfred Hitchcock, is a perfectionist and his musical requirements are given the same close scrutiny as his scripts. From his latest production “FRENZY” comes Ron Goodwin's main theme.
Dimitri Tiomkin is always linked with expansive themes of grandeur and one of his finest, “THE HIGH AND THE MIGHTY” is included.
Also included is the thriller “SHAFT” which is joined here by “THE FRENCH CONNECTION” and the successful Bond chain, “DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER”.
Quincy Jones, one of the most prolific composers and this album features one of his milestones “IN THE HEAT OF THE NIGHT”.
When Alfred Newman died, the world lost an irreplaceable talent. His last work was for the film, “AIRPORT”.
Sprach Zarathustra formed the theme music of Stanley Kubrick's futuristic epic “2001 – A SPACE ODYSSEY”.
One of the triumphs of British cinema was Carol Reed's “THE THIRD MAN”.
Jules Dassin stunned the world with a stylish robbery drama “RIFIFI” which, along with its score, went on to take a permanent place in French movie history.
Michael Cacoyannis left his own mark with the extraordinarily executed political thriller “Z”, and here we present his theme from “Z”.

Songs and instrumental music: Carmen Cavallaro, his orchestra and chorus
‘Carmen Cavallaro’ (May 6, 1913 – October 12, 1989) was an American classically trained pianist. He established himself as one of the most accomplished and admired ‘light music pianists’ of his generation.
A forerunner of the classical-pop `cross-over' that reached its high tide with Liberace, Cavallaro began his musical career as a local solo attraction at plush nightclub venues and on radio. Later, darling of the ivories, Carmen reached a global audience through recordings, film and TV appearances.
‘Cavallaro’ has been compared to his society band predecessor ‘Eddy Duchin’ and to his successor ‘Liberace’. Though they often played the same songs, even at the same hotel ballrooms, ‘Cavallaro’ raised himself to a higher level through his musicianship and technical skill. He went beyond flashy playing to an obsession with perfection which he was able to demonstrate reliably to his audiences.
He was the pianist under the baton of Victor Young at a Hollywood Bowl all-Gershwin recital in 1945. Cavallaro played Franz Liszt music for a Hollywood movie soundtrack, something unimaginable for the talents of Duchin or Liberace. In the pop genre, Cavallaro particularly excelled in Richard Rodgers tunes, Cole Porter standards, Italian songs and Latin compositions.
He was awarded a “Star” on the ‘Hollywood Walk of Fame’.

. Here's a lively record that capitalized on the "Tijuana sound" popularized by the great Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass. Herb and his band are the kings of this type of music (in my opinion), and there were many who jumped on the bandwagon in the late 1960s when this music became popular - they even played the same songs that Herb did. . . So why did I like this album and decide to share it with you instead of one of Herb's? . The COVER, of course ! . Hello! About the ‘vintage’ 1965 bikini cover - since we can't see the girl's face, it's hard to tell if she's even alive in this photo. I mean, was someone just walking along the beach and come across this poor drowning victim and decided to photograph her? . Or, was she passed out from a long night of drinking and partying? . Was this photo one of the rejects for the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue of the day? . One can only imagine...
. . Anyway, I never tire of the Tijuana sound, so whether it's Herb, or the Fiesta Brass, or the Marimba Band, or the Mexicali Brass, or whoever, I enjoy listening to this music. I hope you do, too!

Genre: Film / Classical / Pop / Orchestral music
. ‘Ronald Alfred Goodwin’ (17 February 1925 – 8 January 2003) was a British composer and conductor known for his film music. He scored over 70 films in a career lasting over 50-years. His most famous works included "Where Eagles Dare", "Battle of Britain", "633 Squadron" and "Operation Crossbow".
In 1986 Goodwin began to concentrate on “concerts”, at which he conducted and presented various examples of popular music and music from films. He had begun these in the 1970s at the “Filmharmonic Concerts” at the Albert Hall.
He had completed his 32nd tour with the “Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra”, presenting music such as Frank Sinatra songs, James Bond themes and songs from Disney films.
Goodwin appeared as guest conductor with many of the major British orchestras, including the “Royal Philharmonic”, the “City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra” and the “Halle Orchestra”. He also conducted in Detroit, New Zealand and Singapore.
Always keen to encourage young musicians, Goodwin worked with the “Hampshire County Youth Orchestra”, and was president of the “City of Birmingham Schools Concert Orchestra”. He was on the board of the Young Persons' Concert Foundation, and was a Fellow of the City of Leeds College of Music.
Goodwin also received three “Ivor Novello Awards”, most recently in 1994 for "Lifetime Achievement". .

Description: Strange, in the 5th Symphony the split personality of Tchaikovsky becomes clearly apparent: a person full of extremes, forever swaying between hope and bubbling temperament on the one hand and the depths of resignation and gloomy despair on the other - like his music, and particularly the Fifth, with which he quite consciously composed a symphony to reflect his fate. It was completed in 1888 when he was at the peak of his creative activity and worldly success. Horst Stein (1928-2008) was a German conductor and ranks among the top German conductors of world repute. He held principal conducting positions with the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra, l'Orchestre de la Suisse Romande and the Basel Symphony Orchestra. He was especially associated with the music of Max Reger, and recorded several Reger works. He spent much time training young conductors. . . . . .

“Piano Concerto No.1” is one of the most popular of Tchaikovsky's compositions and among the best known of all piano concerti.
“Liebesträume” (German for Dreams of Love, singular Liebestraum), is a set of three solo piano works by Franz Liszt, published in 1850. Often, the term “Liebestraum” refers specifically to No. 3, the most famous of the three.
Was mir behagt, ist nur die muntre Jagd (The lively hunt is all my heart's desire), BWV 208, also known as the Hunting Cantata, is a secular cantata composed in 1713 by Johann Sebastian Bach. Aria 5, "Schafe können sicher weiden" (or “Sheep may safely graze”), is the most familiar part of this cantata.
The Symphony No. 9 in E Minor "From the New World", Op. 95, B. 178 (Czech: Symfonie è. 9 e moll „Z nového svìta“), popularly known as the New World Symphony, was composed by Antonín Dvoøák in 1893. It is by far his most popular symphony, and one of the most popular in the modern repertoire. In older literature and recordings this symphony is often indicated as Symphony No. 5.
The last movement, “Alla Turca”, popularly known as the Turkish Rondo or Turkish March, is often heard on its own and is one of Mozart's best-known piano pieces. It imitates the sound of Turkish Janissary bands, the music of which was much in vogue at that time. . . | | | |
