Philips launches family of A/V cable solutions to meet digital home entertainment needsBruges, Belgium, Feb 27, 2006 - Philips is to build upon the massive growth in digital home entertainment and consumer electronics technology by launching a three-tier range of cables and connectors aimed at digital video and audio consumers. Tiered-approach for optimum choicePhilips’ three ranges of cables – Digital, Audio and Video - will also be tiered to give consumers a choice of price and performance, starting with a range of cables combining excellent value for money with best-in-class quality, rising through to a range delivering ultimate performance. Philips’ tiered range approach to AV cables is designed to address the different quality needs of today’s home entertainment consumers. For analogue video connectivity, Philips offers a choice of solutions from composite cables offering a good level of performance through to component separation and Scart for optimum colour resolution. This approach is also applied with audio cables, with good quality analogue stereo cables leading up through digital (coax and fibre-optic) packs. The ultimate in cable qualityDiscerning video and audiophiles will be drawn to PXT1000 cables, representing best possible performance and including features such as 24-karat gold connection points and copper-reinforced, aluminum-braided shields around the cabling. With its PXT1000 cables, Philips is making use of a number of quality-enhancing techniques, including ‘4-cut’ connectors which ensure better grip of the cable to the component, thus ensuring significantly better signal transfer. The PXT1000 range also uses split tips, ensuring a perfect connection inside the component. The PXT1000 range will include HDMI, DVI, component video, S-video, composite video/audio, Scart to audio/video, and Scart-to-Scart packs, with a choice of 1.5 and 3.0 meter lengths. Philips will also introduce fibre-optic cable packs in the course of 2006. For consumers who simply want the reassurance of knowing their A/V hardware is connected by good quality cables, Philips has created an intermediate range of ‘Gold’ cables. Use of corrosion-resistant 24k gold connectors, rubberized strain relief on neck joints, and aluminum-braided shielding ensures that these robust interconnects deliver reliable, loss-free signals. As a further commitment to simplicity and ease-of-use, all of Philips’ new A/V cables and interconnects are colour-coded according to application. Digital connectivity, video and audio cables will each have a distinct colour band around their necks to help consumers match them up to the right terminal on A/V hardware, especially amplifiers and receivers which usually have a bewildering array of input and output jacks. Speaker cabling optionsThe launch of Philips’ new range of A/V interconnects will also see the introduction of speaker cabling. As with A/V cables, Philips speaker wire will be available in a range of pre-packaged lengths and in a choice of quality grades including 14 and 16-gauge. The full range of Philips audio-video and multimedia cables will be introduced throughout Europe during the course of 2006. Journalists are advised to contact their local Philips media relations contact for details of local availability and pricing. Pixel Plus and Ambilight are trademarks of Koninklijke Philips Electronics N.V. DVI is a trademark of Digital Display Working Group. HDMI is a trademark of HDMI Licensing, LCC.
