A 4-Port + Wireless Router & Printer Server that can be connected to a maximum of 2 printers (1 parellal and 1 USB). The USB port also can be connected to a USB HDD to act as FTP file server, or a compatible camera** to act as remote surveillance system.

WL-500g provides fast 54 Mbps data rate and all WLAN Router function, including DHCP server, IP sharing, Firewall, VPN pass through, esc. To ensure WLAN security, it also provides strong WPA and unique WLAN firewall, to protect the data from WLAN.

The Asus WL-500g offers one of the most impressive feature sets in its class. This wireless router includes a four-port Ethernet switch, an integrated 802.11g access point, a removable antenna, a configurable firewall, a serial 25-pin D-Sub female printer port, and a USB port that lets you attach either a printer, an external storage or a Webcam**.

The Asus WL-500g's firmware is chock-full of features. It includes WDS support, which allows the router to establish wireless connections with other Asus access points and is especially useful when you need to add access points to increase your range. It comes with embedded DynDNS and TZO clients for use with their respective Dynamic DNS, or DDNS, services. DDNS, in combination with the Asus WL-500g's virtual server functionality, lets you run Internet servers on your network even if you don't get a static IP address from your ISP. DDNS also allows you to access an attached Webcam via the Internet, which is handy for surveillance or if you want to monitor a room from afar. In addition, the Asus WL-500g lets you block access to keywords in URLs. The keyword filters can be set for specific times of the day and days of the week.

If you are an experienced Linux user and are adventurous in "modding" your router ^-^, you could host your own website at home, stream music or internet radio through this router and many other features, which can be accomplished by Linux Open Source Firmware, the possibilities is almost limitless. And the wonderful thing is one could do all the above without even turn ON the computer, but just the router itself !!

** Note on Webcam compatibility: WL-500g only provides support for the following web cameras: SAA8115HL, SAA811HL, OV 511 OV511+ CCD chipset. (ie, Logitech QuickCam Pro 4,000), we do not carry those compatible webcam, please ensure you can obtain the above-mentioned if you intend to use the surveillance camera feature.
