How safe is it to drink straight from it?
The college rented house I'm staying uses normal tap head (plastic) instead of a faucet, can I still install the purifier without changing the tap?

This filter will filter up most the dirt and backteria of the water, yes you may install in all of the tap, as what you mention the plastic tap you may use the black rubber head with a lock as show on the photo on this page.

Yes Brother,the filter it take long time to change and its depend on the quality of water at your area, cause the filter is ceramic, so you may wash with a toothbrush and you may wash till you saw a hole on the ceramic then only you change.
The price is consider super cheap already brother, really lelong price at here, untung not much.
