I see a few negative reviews from people who think the Z-5500 set is better. Having owned both sets I am inclined to disagree. I recently received the Z906 as a warranty replacement for my dead Z-5500. I loved the Z-5500, and I love the Z906 even more. Sound quality is amazing. One of the reviews said the speaker boxes were cheap plastic - that simply is not true. The z906 speakers are more solid and heavy than the Z-5500, with the exception of the subwoofer. These are some of the best 5.1 speakers you can get for the PC!

Ignore all the reviews done by people that have not used this product. You cannot just look at some numbers and expect it to be a downgrade or a subpar product without trying it. This system is AMAZING! the sound is crisp and clear and it works flawlessly. You will love it, I promise!

After 7 years of waiting come a brand new 5.1 system lower than the z-5500 not even wireless not to talk about HDMI connection and the design is very ugly and more expensive than z-5500

Replacement for my Z5500

I updated my z5500 with a z906. The sound quality is amazing and they did it with improved satellite speakers and a smaller subwoofer. I think boost mode does not exist with this new system but for the level that I use the system it is excellent for Blue Ray movies, Gaming, TV and Satellite radio. I do enjoy the fact that they now have two optical inputs and rca jacks for input sources as well as other sources. I loved the z5500 but I had to replace the control pod once and hopefully they have improved the control pod on this new unit. Time will tell. I have had the unit for a few days and so far it has met my expectations. A lot of reviewers say this was a downgrade from the z5500. In my case I am pleased with this newer product. I haven't found out if there is a secret boost mode. You can put it in the old test mode that the z5500's had for checking all the speakers. My harmony remote works great with this system and I no longer have to physically switch an optical switch to use multiple optical sources. Overall, I am very happy with this purchase. Now we'll see if it stands the test of time for reliability. The warranty period seems short at 30 days.
