. . People often wonder about the relationships between MIT and Transparent cables. After all, they seem to be built on the same premise. Here's the low-down:
They used to be partners. Before the split, Transparent used to manufacture and market (and do some R&D) for MIT cables. Bruce Brisson of MIT was the major brain thrust in networked cables (he's not the only one, there were a few others who worked closely with him including the folks at Spectral). MIT cables have always been more advanced. For example, it took Transparent until the late 90's with the Reference XL to figure out the benefits of the Twin CVT and separate tunings for tube (typically lower damping factor) and solid state (typically higher damping factors) amps. MIT used to sell more cables, but their marketing strategy was just a disaster. Beginners to networked cables could never figure out their different cable names and stylings even though a lot of times they are actually the same cables but with different names and looks. Transparent's marketing arm has been a lot more savvy and their resale values are generally higher, even though MIT cables of the same level are often more advanced. The MI-350 Twin CVT, for example, are equivalent or better than all versions of the Transparent Reference cables, MM, XL or original. .
