A warmer sound than the 'Olive' version.. . THE CHROME BUMPER EDITION - Often rumoured to be the best sounding HiCap . . . In superb working condition!

Although certain Naim amplifiers provide an adequate power supply for the partnering preamplifier, the use of a separate Naim ultra-low noise power supply brings substantially improved musicality to the whole system. Simply being separate from the amplifier ensures correct earthing and hum-free operation, while the large toroidal transformer and generous high quality smoothing capacitors provide exceptional dynamic stability.
The HiCap is a half width full height unit which is considerably more refined than the FlatCap and is the most commonly used Naim power supply. It is used to power preamps, active crossovers, the Prefix phono stage and the Headline headphone amplifier. . . The audible benefits of adding a HiCap are fundamental to the music: improving timing, dynamic range, clarity and order. . Particularly complex music becomes both easier to understand and listen to. Inclusion of a HiCap offers the additional benefit of allowing the preamplifier to be left switched on constantly, independently of the power amplifier, keeping the complex circuitry of the unit fully stabilised at all times. The Naim HiCap sets free the musicality and dynamic range of a hi-fi system, making an incredibly effective upgrade to a preamplifier and power amplifier combination.

Each of the power outputs on the HiCap use specially selected regulators for optimum performance. The design can be used to power all of the Naim phono stages, active crossovers and preamplifiers except the NAC 552 and NAC 252. In the case of the NAC 282 preamplifier a second HiCap may be used, bringing further improvements. . Why do dedicated power supplies make such a difference? . There are a number of reasons. Firstly Naim power supplies are of very high quality. Naim pioneered the use of well designed and highly specified power supplies in audio applications 25 years ago and are widely regarded as leaders in what has become well accepted as an important aspect in the design of hi-fi components. Specifically Naim power supplies provide an exceptionally low noise and accurately regulated supply which brings great benefits in such highly critical audio applications. Secondly a power supply is a relatively noisy component in electrical terms and this noise can cause problems in an audio circuit - especially with the delicate low level signals found in preamplifiers. Hence placing the power supply in a separate box can also bring major benefits. This is also the reason why you should site power supplies and power amps (which also contain a power supply) as far away as practical from preamps, CD players and crossovers.

The Naim HiCap power supply is use and prefer to be used together with other Naim gears. Naim pre-amp can be powered up by some of Naim poweramps and their dedicated optional power supply eg. Naim Flat-cap, Naim Flat-cap 2, Naim Hi-Cap and Naim SuperCap. The power supply is normally connected up using its SNAIC (5-pins) cable. . and check out all the possible connections for the various pre and power amps, and decide which combination you want to own. That is why the Naim Hi-Cap or any Naim power supply unit is in such great demand today.

Not scientifically neutral to the nth degree, but not overtly colored either; a good balance tending just slightly toward the euphonic. One or two steps short of high quality tubes, perhaps, without sacrificing the good qualities of solid state like power, bass response, and stability. People seem to be drawn in when listening to Naim gear.? Naim gives listeners the cheapest access to true audiophile sound. You’d have to spend a lot to get better performance than offered by Naim’s bottom of the line range. Once you get into the five-figure prices of the top of the line gear, well, there’s certainly good competition there. But when you can do so well in the (relatively) moderate price range, you might not need to venture higher. . . . .
