In Arabic it means delightful, pleasant. .  Why Naim ? I have given it some thought, and to be honest I think the reason is that Naim seems to screw audio up far less than most manufacturers. . There are a few good things I like about Naim kit: . It actually plays music. This may sound like a blindingly obvious statement, after all this is allegedly what all audio equipment is designed to do, but it is in this area that in my opinion so much kit fails. Try thinking about music for a little while, break it down into its fundamental components. To my mind there are three key parts:  Pitch - the actual note that is being played by each instrument.  Rhythm - when exactly was that note played, this can be thought of both in absolute time, and time relative to that of other instruments.  Timbre - the sonic clues that help us identify what particular instrument is being played. A very large amount of audio systems seem to place maximum emphasis on timbre, usually creating a unrealistic larger and shinier than life portrayal of musical instruments that are then positioned in a strange ethereal space. Whilst they are doing this they normally fail catastrophically with both pitch and rhythm (which to my mind are at least as important). Naim achieve a far more balanced perspective. They achieve all these three areas with pretty much equal success. There are other advantages to Naim ownership. The stuff is fabulously made, and as a result is virtually indestructible, the company is happy to service all the equipment that they have produced, so it is repairable too. There is Naim kit out there that is best part of 30-years old still working perfectly well. A side effect of this reliability and repairability is a buoyant second hand market that is of great use to both buyers and sellers. There is no better value in audio than a second hand Naim product, buy it, enjoy it for as long as you want, and normally you can get your money back when you come to sell or upgrade. . The bottom line is that Naim kit plays music, lasts almost indefinitely, and is easily sellable should you choose to upgrade at any point.
