Before you hire an artist, always ask them the type of paper they use for the portrait they create for you. There's a big difference between multipurpose A4 paper and quality drawing pad. A good quality paper will resist yellow over the course of years. Some artist may use the normal A4 plain paper for you as it costs lower but in long you aren't getting a good deal.
The pencils used should be as important as it seems. A good quality pencil will give a better intensity and concentration which makes the drawing more detailed. At the same time I also use soft pastel for the darkening of the drawing as it makes it more realistic and attractive.
I use quality wooden frame and it can resist acid and water proof. No one likes to pay more for a easy-to-break items.
