The analogue turntable is a device designed to spin a vinyl record at a constant speed and permit the tonearm / phono cartridge system to “read” and report changes in the record grooves with minimal interference. It provides “orgasmic listening pleasure” that has yet to be fully realized by compact disc (CDs), digital video disc (DVDs or DVD-Audio), and other new digital technology like Blu-ray, MP3, iPod, etc. This is the main reason why analogue Turntables are still being widely used today, and preferred by audiophiles despite its exaggerated demise.  In summary, if you DO NOT own an analogue turntable and use it as your primary audio source, you are NOT a true audiophile... period! . “WORN” belts can “DEGRADE THE SOUND” of your turntable to a surprising degree, and should be changed to ensure “optimum performance” is maintained and should be replaced regardless of whether the turntable has been used or not as they can degrade with time and are performance critical. . . Pitch accuracy goes out the window when your belt stretches or wears. Return your turntable to its correct pitch with a new belt. . . Belts stretch with time. A belts worst enemy is being idle. Run the turntable occasionally if you don't play records regularly. Also, check for signs of slow starting.  This is usually caused by belt slip (the result of stretching).  A belt stretched >5% over its new length should be replaced. . . . How Do I Replace My Belt? . Replacing a turntable drive belt is usually a relatively painless process and can usually be accomplished by performing the following steps: Remove the turntable mat Take off the platter, sometimes there will be a circlip holding the platter in place and if this is the case it will need to be removed first.  Most platters just lift off however. Turn the Platter upside down and you will normally see an extrusion where the belt goes round.  If there isn't one and the platter has lifted off and left the belt in place then it will be obvious where the belt has to go!  If this is the case then simply replace the belt and refit the platter.  Now go to step 7.  If however there is an extrusion on the underside of the platter then proceed to step 4. Place the belt around the extrusion on the underside of the platter Replace the platter. Grasp the belt through one of the holes in the platter and stretch it over the motor pulley. If there is a mechanical speed change guide you must make sure that the belt goes through  this otherwise you will not be able to change speed. Replace the mat.
